I need help getting the right size pleats made for my interior. I'm building a '55 Chevy Gasser with a late '60's theme. Interior will be black vinyl pleats so I need to figure out what size should the pleats be? Anybody know?
Some 1'' ,11/2, 2''.2 was probably the most chosen. If doing back sewn, each line takes about 1/2'' extra material which really adds up.My Lincoln is 2''. Jack
1.5" to 2.5"...depending on thickness and density of pleating foam used. Keep in mind that the thicker/denser the foam, the more it will shrink the width of pleats after its sewn. A common rule of thumb is to add half the thickness of the foam for each pleat sewn. For example if you want 2" pleats and your using 3/4" foam add 3/8"...draw your pleats out at 2 3/8". This applies to simple top stitch pleats, tuck and roll pleating as well, but the layout and sewing process is somewhat more involved. *Thickness/density will dictate how defined the pleat will stand out. *Also make sure your pleating foam has a backing such as muslin, this prevents the stitching from pulling or cutting through.
Weren't they onto Diamond Pleat etc by then? Or Rectangular Pleat with metal 'breather rings' like GT40 etc?
