If you have a 1 wire alternator, what do you do about the generator warning light. I just bought a chevy truck that has a 1 wire alternator and the generator light stays on when the key is off. There is no #1 terminal to hook to the light?

I believe you run a wire from the battery to one side of the light and original power to the other. When charging properly there is no potential difference between the alt. output and the battery( light off) and when either the battery is low or the alt. has no output (12V difference) the light operates. Maybe someone will set me/us straight.

  3. There is no provision for a true gen warning light with a 1 wire alt, you can use a volt gauge though. Unhook the light and leave it blank or use it for another purpose.

  4. Ron Francis Wiring sells a lo voltage sensor that can be used to operate the stock generator light if want it functional.

  5. I have run a light from a one wire alt, your light will have 2 terminal connections on it one side you run to your alt the other to your starter solenoid that way when the ignition key is off it is not grounded and the light goes off, when you put your ignition key on light will come on, but when you start the engine the voltage from the alt will balance out with battery voltage and light will go off, if light come on while engine is running it tells you that the alt is not charging.

What # 3 said. Voltmeter is the way to go.
