That car was one of the Arfon's Brothers fleet of race cars at the meet. The Ranger helicopter engine not only drove the rear tires, the propeller was supposed to assist in accelerating the car. It was quickly named the "Baloney Slicer" because if you got too close you would suffer serious consequences. As you would imagine, it didn't work out too well and was never seen again.

  10. Love Kodachrome. The colors are so vivid. Do they even still make the stuff?

Fantastic pics! Thanks for posting. This was the first drag race I ever attended. My big brother & several of his friends took me. I was hooked at the tender age of 11.

Exceptionally cool pix. Some awesome shots of one of Omaha's coolest drag rigs ever, The Golden Rod, with its custom 55 Merc pickup push/tow car. Note the white coveralls of the crew, lettered The Golden Rod, and the Gold pith helmets. As a kid I was mesmorized by this group. Lottsa classics in there as well. Thanx ~sololobo~

Great pics. Many thanks, my friend Richard and I drove his slammed 51 ford down
from Kansas City for this event. Our first road trip, life was great.

  19. I'm amazed at how many "new" 1957 cars are there. In one picture there is a '57 Plymouth, Ford and Chevrolet together.

These are an outstanding glimpse into how hot rodding really was. I wish more people could use these photos as a reference for their newer builds. Thank you so much for posting.

  30. More great pictures!!! Love those things! Like a window into the past. The colors with the Kodachrome are always the best.
