I'm wanting to put some 2" holes in some sheet metal. I have a punch set (hand/ratchet type) that cuts really clean holes, but what I'm wanting is that slightly indented or chamfered hole, as I think it would look cleaner. My question is- is this a different type of die or cutter that I need to buy that makes the holes come out that way, or is this a process that is done after the hole is cut with an entirely different tool? Any input would be great. Pics always help too if you have any... Thanks!
You could have a local machine shop make you a dimple die for your hole size pretty reasonable. I have made many of them in no time on the ol lathe. Good luck
Allstar racing sells punch flare tools , good quality, at reasonable prices, any Motor State dealer can order btw I have a set of 4 , they are good. Under$100.00 each size
Here you go: http://vansantent.trick-tools.com/search?view=grid&w=dimple&x=0&y=0 Mittler Brothers also sells some nice ones
Search for the homemade tools thread. There was a post today covering exactly what you're asking for. Using a homemade die to use on the hole punch set you already have. Good info.
They are super satisfying and easy if you have the right tool. The kit with punches, dies and an air-over-hydraulic ram is ~$1,000...which is why I borrowed one Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
