Pretty cool!I wonder what happened to the 48 ford. The car with the plexiglass hood was in my friend Kiwi Craig's Upholstery shop a few years ago.I cant' wait to see it finished.
From what I gathered, when the car was found, the original flathead that was in the movie was toasted long ago, there was no motor in it. Bill had a 350/350 out of a street rod that he put in it with power steering. May leave that in there to make the car more user friendly. In the movie there was no shots of the engine, so I don't think that matters too much. But everything you can see inside the car and outside will be dead on to the movie.
I was gonna say, that it sure sounded like a cammed up flathead on that movie. It would be baddass with a flathead back in it. Always loved that car, and it was mostly because of how it sounded. I would shit can the chevy motor.
It will be nice to see the resto on this thing! You should fire up the pic of the merc on your avatar man. Jay
Intersting how the coupe survived when it was the one dukes of hazzarding over the canal in the LA riverbed!! I cringe everytime I watch that part!!
Bill told me he had the car when I called and bought various parts from him over the years. Glad to see the car in good hands. And it's a fun movie too.
That was the white Ford that made the big jump and bent everything. The Mercury just stalled in the water.
Haha, hopefully within reason. Did you ever notice the mismatched interior that it had in the movie? Grey or green door panels, black seats, etc. Looks like you already have a nice, matching interior in it.
Oh yeah thats right!! i was thinking they both jumped!! I remember thinking the stunt guy in the 48 was going to fly out!!
Yep cool story. I loved that Merc ESP the way she sounded with that nasty flathead. IMO it would be ultra kool to put in a nasty cammed , big cubed flathead one day just like she had in the movie. Great score !!!
And some inquiring minds would have asked me for the cause of death. Are you really that PC to be offended by the inclusion of that fact? Would you have been as upset if I said he died of lung cancer? Engaging in risky behavior has its consequences.
Bill suplied alot of movie studios with mercs and shoeboxes, I think he told me once that they used eleven mercs to make the movie "Cobra " with Sylvester Stalon.Glad to see the car went to a good guy that will apreciate it.
im as far from PC as you can get im not upset at all and im not offended i just didnt see the need to include the cause of his death it was like you HAD to point out the fact that he passed of AIDS and yes risky behavior has its consequences just like driving faster then the speedlimit does sometimes you die sometimes you get away with it but im done i dont want to get this thread deleted or closed its cool this movie car is documented and is going to be saved
love the car craterface, lost count the amount of times I watched this as a kid.. ^^^^^cool Thunderbird...very cool^^^^^^ give that guy a sheet with some holes cut in it....
After reading all these posts, I think you guys are right, even though the motor was never visible in the movie, I am going to yank out the 350 and put a nasty Merc flathead back in it.
