That's so cool. I did a guitar like that for a musician friend...to match his favorite tie dye T shirt.
    Nice job!

I have started looking at this thread a few times..... haven't viewed all of the pics yet ..... "Lots to see" !!!!!

Even though I am a VERY LONG way from painting my car ('69 Opel Kadette street/strip gasser) my mind is constantly thinkng about "what I will do someday".

At first it was a "flat or satin base color with candy/metalflake flames"

Then I thought about using solid color Candy Apple red paint with metalflake & gold leaf lettering.

More recently, I have been thinking VERY seriously about what would be a "period correct" look ..... a subtle multi-colored paneled paint job with metalflake - cobwebbing paint job & "gold leaf" lettering.

Like I said I have a LONG time & a LOT of WORK to do before I can even think about a "custom paint job".

I am currently working on restoring a tube chassis (formerly NHRA certified) .... then body-off.[IMG]

Still to come will be .... striping off all of the paint & doing bodywork - replacing the engine/transmisson - lots of interior sheetmetal work/interior - total rebuild of anything mechanical - wiring - etc, etc, etc....

I just subscribed to this thread ..... still have pages/pictures to look thru on this very popular thread.

So far I like certain "parts" of these: (especially the burnette ... L o L!!!!)

Time to get to work.... gotta see if I can still find one of those "leisure suits" I used to have "back then" ...... "staying ALIVE.... staying ALIVE"....

I have a quick question......if I'm doing a small panel painted project, using different Kandy Koncentrate's mixed in with the clear lacquer..... Do I need to cover these with 'pure' clear prior to doing another tape out/ design, or can I treat the clear mixed with Kandy Koncentrate the same as 'pure' clear and just scuff it with a scotchbrite pad and carry on with more designs?
    Thanks!
    James

I've always wanted to try my hand at patterns, so I figure I should give it a go.
I've done lace before, and sprayed flake but never done anything more.
So, I laid down a silver basecoat with silver flake, and silver holo flake and got to work.
First a couple lace panels in the centre.

Then there will be 3 panels down each side of the roof, each with a different pattern.
So far I have Fish Scales, and an Endless line done.

Once the patterns are done, it will be getting Turquoise candy over it.

That will look great when finished..

When you spray the fish scales do you just spray in a straight line across the pattern or do you have to arc across each scale individually ?

Never done them before and looking for some tips:D

I arc each scale across. I have seen them done straight across, and I tried it that way first on a piece of paper, and it didn't look right. Following the arc looks best IMO.

I'm all done now. Turquoise candy down, and I added some blue flake it the top coat of clear just for a little extra kick.

It may not be perfect, but it's my first time doing something like this, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

as you should be!! This is outstanding work!!

if anything you may wanna consider for the next one, is the fish scales should go the other way....with the flow of the car, and not upstream.

but, (as I do this for a living...)...that's seriously nothing anyone else would ever even notice.

Great job young man!!! Keep 'em coming!!

I did think of that, but from the few pictures I looked at, they were done both ways, so I just did it this way.
    Thank you everyone.
I should have the visor re-assembled and bolted back up this afternoon.

    Don't fight it..

    Come to the flake side.

The flake is strong in this one.
