Man, I just checked in to see whats up, Wow! Great stuff everyone love seein' what turns others cranks. Langy I was hoping you'd chime in. Always love seeing your work. Not to diminish everyones elses submissions, all great stuff. I'll add one more I've been working on for about eight years(not every day HAHA).

 

After building the bed for my 55 F100 I decided that I wanted smooth running boards instead of the stock ribbed style. I still had some extra metal left over from the bed so I gave it a shot at building the boards.

Mocked up the shape I wanted in wood.

wow that bed is crazy. When I started my car I started to built the parts I could build cause I didn't have any money. Then after a while you start having more and more built then bought. You get crafty when you're broke. I'm happier with the parts I built than anything I could've purchased. When people ask about your bed or any of things the rests of the other posters put up you can say I built that. And the pride of ownership extends to the fact that it didn't exsist before we picked up our tools.

 

Thanks for the positive comments. Since my truck has been a budget build from the start, I try to make any part that I think I may be capable of. And yes, there is a sense of pride in knowing that I built a lot of the parts in my truck. There are certainly some over the top parts shown in some of the previous posts. Personally I don't have the real estate or the money for some of the equipment used to make some of those parts, but I still enjoy seeing them. A mill or a lathe sure would be nice to have but most of the guys I know are doing good to have a welder.

I hope to see more of the things that are shop built in this thread no matter whether it was made with a lathe or was shaped with a file.

Steering Arms

 

I'll put up some more. I built a quick release steering wheel taker-offer. I know I could've bought on but where is the fun in that? The only problem I have with it is you don'y want to rob a bank then try to put the whell back on, I have to figure out how to index this thing better. The sad part is everything is off set so it only goes on one way, however you can get it to star on the wrong way. A little fine tuning and it will be great. And it was free(not including my labor.)

I recently cast up this little piece to hide my dash warning lights. It measures about 2 1/2" x 3/4". And has three led's, blue, red and green.
I'll prob get flamed for taking the photos on a "street rodder" magazine

This is the most recent piece I made. I couldn't buy a shift lever for my 833 that was the correct position so a friend let me use his shop and we turned this out of a piece of 1 inch hex stainless, tapered and threaded the end and curved it using his induction heating machine which does not discolor the stainless. Then I polished it and it looks store bought.

Looking at this thread, i know I am a rank amateur, even if that!

 

windshield stanchions made these on my bridgeport out of matl we had at work from a helicoptor blade job we dont do any more gonna finish this winter with fins to match headlight brackets

 

Karmann fresh air grills? I like.
