  1. Damn! There is a lot of fine detail there. Not just a "sixty footer".

    VERY COOL!!!

This info will be a big help in building my 1954 331 Caddy. It's also going in a 34 coupe.....A 34 Chevy coupe, that is. :D

Did you mainly change to a Joe Hunt dist because of the firewall clearance? How has it worked out? Would the Rotofaze have done just as well, as the Joe Hunt dist? I'm still looking for a good distributor and am in need of some advice on one.

I had to change Distributors because I ordered a Roto Faze That used a crap cap and didnt check clearance first, oops.Regular Roto Faze with a standard capped distributor would have cleared just fine or any other standard cap for that matter. The Roto Faze is a dual point and the Joe Hunt is HEI and internally coiled as well.Sorta was a win win for me.However the only downfall was I couldnt use my solid core clear plug wires with the Joe Hunt because you can fry the electronics.

  7. My (old) friend has a '65 429 Caddy in the back of his garage. He was showing me the engine weights from an older Motors manual. Unless its an undiscovered typo, the 429 weighs slightly less than a Chevy 350. Which is quite a bit less than a flattie. Anyway, everytime I bring up putting it in the '35, he changes the subject. But I like what you've done and may have to try a bit harder to at least get him to store it in my garage.
    Good luck with this.

the 429 was about 600 lbs The 63-67 Cadillac 390/429 is different than the 49-62 331,365,390 series engines BTW.

  9. And I like the idea of it still being lighter than a flathead and a bit more hp. Did you box the frame for this or was that already done?

Actually boxed the frame when we built the car with the Flatty, just because, just like the firewall being recessed, I always knew Id probably go to an OHV eventually, just not this soon..lol..429's are great engines and have lots of torque which is what these Caddys are known for.

Man, is that pretty...I always felt the flatty was a little out of place in that car, the cad is perfect, and all that chrome...YUMMMMM.
