I admit I suck with the search feature but I honestly tried. What I need help with is wiring a start button with a points ignition. Does someone have a diagram or can at least tell me how. I am not sure where to put the ballast resistor if there is really no "run" position. I think it would go between the keyed on/off switch and the positive but am not sure. Thanks for the help.

Is this for a GM application? The "start button" should be wired between a constant 12V+ source and the starter solenoid's "S" terminal.

    Oh and this too:

The diagram in post #2 shows how. Just ignore the purple "hot in start" circuit on the left. That's where your "button" will go.

The yellow wire will go to the solenoid's "R" terminal.

Again I assume it is a GM application.

Yes it's a 327. I got that the button goes between 12V and the "s". But where does the ballast resistor go to drop the voltage once its running?

It goes between your ignition key switch terminal that is hot when your key is in the "RUN/ON" position and the "+" terminal on your coil.

The yellow wire going to the solenoid's "R" terminal is only hot when you are cranking the engine, so the coil gets a full 12V for a hot spark to start a cold engine.

On the positive side of the coil but. Some coils have a built in resistor

I have a resistor on mine and don't use the full 12v for starting. Just the resistor on + side of the coil.

Sorry, didn't catch the 327 SBC earlier for some reason.
Power Push Button with Hot or On position from ign switch to S terminal
Ing terminal from ign switch to ballast to + on coil
R terminal from stater to the + on coil will be your resistor by pass.
