what would be the most likely rear gears found in a 62 impala that came with the 230 6-cyl with a powerglide ? being that the 230 6cyl had 135hp/220tq gross rating. what would the net rating be ? also what would the car get for gas milage ?
I pulled a 3.36 center section out of 4 door 62 6 cyl. Several years ago. Pretty common ratio and found in a lot of the 283 cars as well. As far as mileage and hp I have no idea.
Different areas had different standard rear ratios. Or dealers ordered ones that "fit" the local area. Here in NJ 283 PG cars late 50's early 60's were mostly 3.08. Sticks 3.36ish. Station wagons 3.55 and 3.70. Six cylinders might have been one step lower all across. PA was different (lower). And I'm sure the flat middle country was different again (higher). Also never saw an OD here in NJ on the 50's 60's stuff.
Correct! 230s came out on the 63 models My mistake, 62 was the first year for 230s . I got the years mixed up. Sorry about that
lol gas pumper i should have your user name being as when im not at my day job i spent my nights. i got the engine size and spec's from http://www.oldride.com/library/1962_chevrolet_impala.html it lists it has a 230 and not a 235.
Me too, up to about 4 years ago. Best part time job there is. No one has high expectations of you and the world thinks you're an idiot. And the tips were great.
lol i wish i did it part time. but for a 2nd full time job it can't be beat. that being said and having barly anything to do at night except for think. based on other numbers from when they switched from gross to net. would it be save to say the car only has 100hp-175torque ? still trying to figure this stuff out for sure.
Last Sept. I picked up a 60 wagon---235 three speed----in Washington and drove it back to Indianapolis. Averaged between 20 and 22 MPG over a 2500 mile trip.
this chart is much more accurate. 6cyl PG is 3:36 standard. 6cyl 3sp is 3:55 standard. http://www.348-409.com/differential.html#1962-64
