Thanks BAM! Driveshaft is in, changed the fluid on the trans, installed the Megashifter trans bracket, welded in the rear shock mounts, started to Peel and Seal the cab and installed transmission detent cable. Next is wiring, install shifter, finalize the brakes, align all panels and DRIVE!!!
that will be a worth while maiden voyage. Thanks for letting us tag along as you went through your build eh
Lookin good, your gettin there! You might wanna change out that Air freshener, I don't think it's puttin out that Pine fresh scent anymore!
I found that in the cab corner, thought I would give it a shot. Truck pulled itself out of the garage last night, was too late to go around the block since I don't have any lights. Brakes are still a bit spongy and too close to the accelerator pedal. I was a little low on tranny fluid and had to rev the motor a bit to get going back into the garage. The transmission engaged and the truck jumped toward my workbench, I quickly smashed the brake pedal to the floor but caught the accelerator pedal as well. First successful burnout in the driveway complete!
Notes to self. Great article on installing EZ wire kit. http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/1010clt_aftermarket_wiring_harness_install/photo_01.html Starter wiring Ogre's volt gauge fix
Congratulations! It sure is starting to look like a truck again! I wish I was this far along, but maybe I can make a bigger dent in things this year. You are doing a great job.
Thanks Bro, its been alot more work than I had originally planned but hey, it is what it is. Started to run the wiring last night, made some good progress. Tried installing the windshield this morning with my buddy and it broke. I think its all about patience, I also don't think it helps that its cold and raining here today. Onward and upward.
Thanks for the steering adjustment link, that's something that a lot of guys don't know about. A local buddy thought he just HAD to have power steering for his truck, until he got the steering box properly adjusted. Now it steers great with little effort. Imagine that!
I love the way this thing looked at work today. Not something I expect sitting next to a 100K plus porshe turbo. Glad to see you on the board, and glad to see there is someone at work that isnt just another prius douchebag..
Hahahaha yesterday I snuggled up to a Mercedes Benz I think it's near daily driver status, I've put on 60 miles so far with no shocks I think it's time for shocks. the front end is going on this weekend so it should look a little less ghetto.
Great job brotha ! That parking lot pic is awesome Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
I have been lurking on this forum for a very long time and at least twice a week I check in to see what going on to give me ideas for my 54 Gmc build. I was actually using the search function to look up "homemade parallel 4-link" and yours was one of the last posts. In the first pic of your truck I thought the style of home across the street from your home looked familiar and when I looked at your location it seemed to make sense..However the fleetside bed I never saw in your post up to that point. But the broken winshield, electrical wiring with aircraft loom, and the dirty dirty tree-fity with single barrel carb along with the toyota steering gave it away..Are you shift 5 or 1?
I am shift 1. What area do you work in? I am the ramp specialist in RTA diffusion for Applied Materials.
Shift 5 1270 Wet Etch CAT Technician waiting to go up on seed. I work both sites 12/32 and am course owner for Fab Evac's..Yippie..BTW, you asked if the vortec heads are better than what you have...YES! My buddy has 4 bolt 350 with vortec heads air gap intake, roller cam setup for hydraulic, carb, etc and runs low 12's in his heavy 70 nova..Pretty good for boat anchors..I have a 5.3 I am most likely going to throw in my 54 with the 4l60 since I already have it and the harness. With a cam and the LS1 intake should be able to put down 350 to the wheels.. I also have an 6.0 Ly6 sitting in the garage that I may put in who knows..
Badass! The 57 front end looks sooo much better with the fleetside than the 58/59..Where did you find the bed?
My buddy Art had it on his 55 Chevy. He found another 1 in better shape so I pick this 1 up off of him.
Trucks lookin good. Im building a 55 that started out as a 3600. Havnt been able to work on it lately but gettin ready to go some more soon. Whats the seat out of? Rod
Looking pretty damn good but you need to raise the front of the bed to line the body lines up. Unless you like it that way, then carry on...lol
Stopped by my bud Arts house after work. Couldn't resist taking pictures of the twin fleets that never existed. His was purchased new by his grandfather in 55. Also a 47 that he is working on for his buddy Scott.
Looks great! I too am working on one that will be 55-57 front fenders with a fleetside bed. I haven't had the whole thing together to confirm that it's going to look as bad ass as I see in my mind, but this confirms I'm making the right choice. What wheels/tires are you running as they look to have changed from the skinny white stripes to blackwalls. I've searched the thread to no avail.
Thanks for the kind words, the tires are 205/75/15's. Still the same tires as before just blacked out the whitewalls. Did not want to pay the $$$ to dismount and flip because they are old and crusty and might not last that long.
I mounted my cab and test fitted my engine and tranny last night and ran into fitment issues with the front crossmember as well. I'm going to notch out and the boxed in a section of the crossmember for added clearance on the pulley rather than swap out the water pump, pulley and fab up a new alternator bracket. Can you still use your E-brake or do you have to relocate it?
