In 1955 my father in law bought a new 55 chevy, My wife,s family photos only consist of a very few of that car. I will post them below. I do know that it was an auto, and knowing his spending habits, it was most likely a six cyl. Do you guys think it was a 150 or a 210? I don't have anyone in the family alive to ask as she was very young when he sold it to get a new 63 impala.
I haven't seen many '55's painted as the one you posted. Most two tone paint jobs include the top of the 1/4's and the trunk along with the roof as contrasting to the doors and front end. This car has the top only, which was done on the Delray models, a variant of the 210, but rare. The interior of the Delray had square or waffel pattern seat covers like this car: http://www.autotraderclassics.com/classic-car/1955-Chevrolet-210-900993.xhtml If the car was equiped with a V-8, then there would have been emblems indicating such below the tail lights. http://rivercityclassicautorestoration.com/1955-chevrolet-210/ Do you have any more pictures?
The two-tone combination on the Two-Ten shown was the only one available on early sedans. The combination of which you speak of was available on hardtops only. This was so popular that Chevrolet expanded it to sedans as an option mid-year.
look at the side chrome if its smooth (round) its a a 210... if it (and it looks like it to me i cant see too well ...lol ) dented and white in the center its a BA...
Had a 210 DelRay with the same paint scheme-red with white top orig paint and it was a July built Oakland car.
210...trim at rear, none on front and the white (stripe) hub caps not wheels covers. Mabey a Del Ray with the two tone seat, but not enough info in those 2 pic's to be positive.
I debated about replying to this thread but what the heck,,the consensuses is it's a 210 and I agree. HRP
Interesting thread, pictures are so 50's. Nice little car and I sure think 210, six cyl. I have wondered about the two toning schemes which was properly answered here, God I love the H.A.M.B. ~sololobo~
I would say 210 Del-Ray.I have low mile original paint gypsy red, white roof with black and white interior.
I have maybe one more pic, and like I said, this car has been long gone for forty years. For some reason, I thought the car was a four door when my wife would refer to the 55. Now that I know it is a 210 2 dr, (Thanks to you guys), I can now start a search for one. I will post the other pic when I get it dug out! many thanks for all the info.
Ok now these two photos are pictures of pictures taken with my Ipad so the quality is not too good. The earlier picture at the grave yard is preceded by this one by a year or two. It does show the wheels and the second one is later yet. [ 57 Heap, this indicates it was a 6 banger] by no v8 trim under the tail lights. She said the seats were two tone but no remembrance of carpet. As of now , I will go with a mid year 2 dr sedan, 210 trim unless someone proves otherwise. I wish I had more to go on... Thanks to all.
A lot of '55s were two-toned only on the roof. I'm pretty sure the trim tag has a letter code that will say how the car was two-toned, "B" for top only and "C" for the "Speedline" two-tone treatment. I've read many times that a whole lot of Speedline (that's what Chevy called the top-and-trunk two-tone) painted cars were done at the dealers. About the car in question, the lack of the little chrome "V"s below the tail lights means it was a six, and the body trim is 210. 150s didn't have side spears on the quarters at all.
