When you look up the meaning of Talent in the Dictionary..... The Tardel name shows up.

  7. cool project, and I just signed up for the newsletter.
    Thanks

  8. Nice, except they are not "tankers". Those would be trucks and ships that haul bulk products. They are bellyTANKS. This has been a point of discussion as of late in the LSR community. FWIW

Everytime I look at the internal layout on the belly tankers I can't help but thinking about the consequenses of a mishap at top speed. It was certainly a different brand of bravery.

    That said, it's flippin' sweet.

I think the modern day equivalent to the land-speed guys back then are the guys that strap on the squirrel suits and risk so much to push the envelop a little farther. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWfph3iNC-k

Take a look at John Cobbs Railton Special, he was sitting on a lawn chair with no structure at all around him at 400 MPH. Those squirrel suit guys aren't even gearheads:)

They all have big cajones, but a speed record in a tank looks like the toughest feat of all.

Vern is one of my heroes! ... Cool Tank! ... Thanks for sharing!

FYI ... There's more info (& pics) on this tank in CRAP's "Can anyone ID this belly tanker" thread from July of 2010.

  17. 2x what Tman said.
If you have to include an "r", call them Lakesters.

  18. Tankers and slingshot dragsters are just about as cool as it gets.

How big were the guys that typically drove these cars? (Not talking nut size...or if they are were brass, etc). What a wild ride...NASA minus the altitude.

Id kill to take a ride in one of those things... The girlfriend is eye rolling at me right now as I add building and driving a salt flat racer to the bucket list.

Very inspiring...kind of adds a little justification to my thought of building a traditional belly tank out of the one I got.

    Love the work.

I hear you, but the funny thing is all the old literature where they were called "tankers"... so I guess if you are a traditional hot rodder they are "tankers", if Bonneville guy "tanks", or.....

I think we are going to start putting of couple of the p-38 tanks together that I have for sale. Been hanging in the rafters too long.
