Actually, yesterday, when the keg went dry at a superbowl party, my truck, Deerslayer, was the only vehicle at the event suitable to go after another keg and he performed magnificently.

When I get my '48 Diamond T done, I can use it for truck instead of my '51 Pontiac wagon being abused quite so much.

Thats why i built it. Swap meets, trannys, trailers. Before the bed was even on it i hauled 2 bedsides strapped to the frame rails.

I have a 65 C10 for a shop truck. It was a one owner truck that I did a frame up resto in 2004. Logged 94,000 miles on it since

  10. Well...... sometimes I use it.

In my opinion, anything under a 1 ton is a pick up. But I use my hot rod truck It's a 56 f-600 , and yes it really is pretty quick, but by 65 you're getting close to top end!

Mines not flash enough to have me polishing it all the time, and its not fast enough to give a thrill over the quarter mile (runs 16s), so its got to work for its living.

The bed is ply and its great for throwing all manner of stuff into. A working truck - who ever would have thought of that!!

I and my buddy, Bad Bob, use our trucks as trucks all the time.

The following pics show us bringing home the pieces of what would later become my "36 Fordy" truck... a 1940 pkp with the front end from a 1936 Ford passenger car.

It was October of 2008. The cab was in my truck and the bed was in Bob's.

Bob likes to stay close when we park!

  19. Looks like a tough deal was made here. Something like buy the old truck but you have to take the rest as well.

My old 37 Kingcab pickup never got a real paint job. It had a removable bed cover, cargo hold downs and a rubber mat on the bed floor. It was my fleamarket or anything else that would fit hauler for several years.
I built my current 56 ElCamino creation with a rubber mat on the bed floor and hold downs for a cargo net or straps which are always stored in the vehicle. This one has a real paint job so I may be more careful but I have no problem hauling stuff in it. I Get a lot of comments from friends when they see me with a load or finding a good score in the neighborhood on trash day. Hopefully the "USED CAR" plate I was able to get will help them understand my actions.

I drove my 66 F100 daily for 2 or 3 years, until we had our 2nd child. I've had a modern extended cab F150 ever since. Toughest part of having an old truck daily driver or work truck is insurance. Hard to find a "stated value" regular policy, and most collector policies are voided if the truck is hauling or towing ANYTHING. Read your policy carefully...

  25. My truck is only a "semi" hot rod.... It's a fairly stock pickup with a few hot rod parts, and a fair amount of work in to it. It makes loud enough noises to piss off normal folks, looks cool, and I use the piss out of it. That makes it enough of a hot rod pickup that gets used in my book.

Once on the road it will be used as a truck. No fun if I have to be carefull in it. Just because it is old and cool does not mean it cant be used for what it is intended for.

Drive my F-100 every day and in the Miinesota winter weather permitting. She will haul most anything I ask her to.
