Got a buddy just called wanting to now if I knew of any early "Van" engine covers around He's wanting to make a recessed firewall for his 1929 Ford Truck (that has a 289 ford installed with short pump) Years ago we used Wheel Barrow shells He likes the rounded corners Any Ideas from Hamb members? besides making one from Scratch? Thanks..........

I have a wheel barrow riding ahead of me in the Plymouth now for just shy of twenty years... Don't mess with success!
My 57 has a wheel barrow firewall. It looks like the car came that way.....the 454 is set back to clear the oil pan/steering linkage.
Back in the 70's I used a wheel barrow very similar to this John Deere for the firewall of my Model A pickup. HRP
When I bout mine about twenty years ago, as I wenthtrough the check out line the young gal tried to sell me assembly at an extra 10.00. "'cause those are pertty hard to put together..." I said no thanks, and I just asked if it was returnable - "why?" I'm worried it might not fit. Strange look and silence...
Used a wheel barrel for a firewall recess in my A roadster a few years back. The picture of the recess in progress go in my A coupe behind a 330 hemi. You can get just the bucket part of the wheel barrel at Menard's for about $14.
I have a friend that turned the stock firewall around. That gave him 3to 4inch setback for engine looks good .
still use the wheel barrows and wagons, have used a feew 30-55 gal barrel rims over the years as well...
I have an old charcoal grill that I'm keeping the lid from when the bottom rusts out. It has nice rounded corners like on those wheelbarrows.
My 31 PU project came with a hole in the firewall and a wheel barrow to fill it. not sure if I am going that route or not but I have it for when I start on it
Love the wheelbarrow method. Did it once to a friends A.... The adage of measure twice cut once is a must. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Man, I had a engine cover from a '64 or 5 Chevyvan in my hand at PullaPart a while back and didn't know what I'd ever do with it! Oh well, live n learn. I love the BBQ grill lid idea!
