This is a fresh installation some years ago...lookin' a little weak lately...more native American style than Mexicano.

 

That is MUCH better looking than the mexican blankets^^^^^

Sister in law did mine in the 56 Customline. She's a genuine Betsy (Juanita) Ross with the sewing machine!

 

just finished mine for my 31 A pick up, am pleased with how it turned out.
Not bad for a 1st timer I dont think.

where in jersey? does anyone know if you can buy this by the yard? or just 1 blanket at a time?

 

I have to take this gaucho (Uruguayan analog of the cowboy) as inspiration for upholstery.

 

They were like 4 for $15 or $10 at Southwest Supermarket near 24th and Thomas in Phoenix back in the 90's. That's why we used em. Cheap and much better then sitting on that 50-60 year old material that was falling apart and full of holes (windows down on the freeway sucks with all those tiny pieces of foam and cloth flying around inside).

 

here is one from Deep South Texas where Mexican blankets are all too common but still look cool no matter what they are in.

I guess they missed the real use of the blanket, it was to protect the "good" seat material and if the car broke down you could lay on it or throw it over the fender, but to use it for door and headliner material.

just finished this seat this past week.....not to impressed with my work but it was at least an improvement, cheap too

 

'cause its not "traditional"

 

Two pieces of MDF, high density foam from the craft shop, $12 Mexican blanket from a local tourist trap and a lot of staples. 3 hours later. Voila. Roadster seat. If the seat works out to be comfortable I might refinish it later in something a little less "loud."

 

how are you guys attaching them? i have them in my 68 monaco and want them nice and tight. the biggest concern is the front seat since you can see it from the back. what do you guys use? pics would be great!

 

i hog ringed them, the blankets are very stretchy and you can pull all the wrinkles out easily.
