As I understand it... Dolly on. But the shrinkage is almost unnoticeable. Let me know if you have better luck.
Hey, Not that it matters, but are you talking about the '' spiral '' faced hammer or the '' meat tenderizer '' faced hammer? Both would be used '' dolly on '' ,but neither are a great way to shrink a stretched area on a panel! These type of hammers leave the panel somewhat '' gashed & scratched '', and thats never a good thing! The slapper type files work well for some types of stretched metal, but a torch, hammer & dolly or shrinking disc would be my choice over a '' shrinking hammer " " Do not reach greedily for the Kool-Aid "
I have never had much luck with the shrinking hammers, but I love the shrinking disc for minor work then the old torch, hammer/dolly, wet rag for larger areas.
40 yrs and never really found a use for a shrinking hammer. LOL it actually stretches the metal with those little square dents and now you have more to do. Junk in my opinion. Run a grinder over it and make a regular hammer.
I use mine as a door prop when I can't find a block of wood " Spending a nation into generational debt is not an act of compassion "
i watched a friend one time do a little shrinking with just a regular body hammer and dolly, he kind of swiped the metal, a glancing blow, it was a small area but it did the trick.
they do work but only in verry special circumstances, and you should use a block of wood behind it instead of a steel dolly, hockey pucks and tubber dollys workwell too
