Since we shaved the trunk key Ryan needed a way to open the trunk. Solenoids fail all the time leaving you with no way into the trunk so a manual setup was in order. So I built this latch arm and pull using some old eelco throttle linkage I had laying around. The latch has a simple pull located behind the flip down tag bracket next to the gas filler hidden from view.

"The plan is a simple one. The end game for this car is a sort of “hybrid” GT/mild custom, so nothing fancy is called for in the paint and body department – a liberal shave and a clean respray of the stock Verde Green. That’s it… Bill Mitchell got it right and I’m not inclined to argue with the man now..."

Ryan, I don't know if you've seen this picture, but the above statement reminded me of it. It looks to have been taken in the mid to late 60's.

That does look quite a lot like what Ryan has in mind minus a few tweaks.

Yep, I'd have thought he would have used a cable setup like my 92 Geo Prizm has where the trunk pull is right at the corner of the front seat. Probably easy to find in a pot load of Toyota sedans too.

A little wetsanding. I got my shop helper doing a little sanding here also. My 16 year old nephew learned alot this summer working with me and likes to come help out after school. I'm gonna have to talk to him about sitting down on the job.

We still have a 1963 riv in the family. I bought it in 1965 where I was the body shop manager. Our youngest son has it now & I will re paint next year. It alway's has been & still is in almost new condition. It alway's was & still is a great driving car.

I got wind of this the other day, so on good authority, I phoned up Jamie about a little job I need done. He, apparently, understated his role in freshening up this car. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with my pile of parts!

Ryan, I wanna see this when it comes home!

  16. mine is the same green. but no where near as straight and the paint is cracked everywhere. i dread the day it has to go to bare metal.

    green gut too?

If I wasn't broke I would head down to Atlas World Headquarters and snap some shots for everyone. Looking good Daddy-o, as everything you do does. Mike your work is outstanding as always :)

Looking Good Ryan, I can't wait to start a little shaving and body work on mine, the first thing that is going are the ugly, body line chopping dealer added door moldings, I'm glad the original owner had them put on because it saved the stainless moldings but they gotta go!!:D
