Shoeboxes have a tendency to have a heavy eye brow too. Chopping the windshield less makes it alot different in appearence. Take your time and make your cuts nice and clean. Have fun.. .

Well if you need an extra set of hands or eyes, let me know. If I can get away I'd love to come watch, if nothing else. I'm thinking of chopping my Fordor about the same as you're talking about. I don't think I'd do it myself though. I suck at metalwork but still trying to learn. When are you thinking of getting started?

Thinking in a few weeks. My buddy is a metal whiz. We could try
on my car, get it perfected, and then he could do yours. He's always looking for more business. :D

    Mostly good advice so far.
    A couple more things:
    1) Look at a LOT of photos of chopped shoebox Fords. Pay very close attention to the ones you like and the ones you don't and figure out what the difference is between them!
Once you find one or two you really like, put the photos on your garage wall and use them for reference because there will be a hundred little decisions to make and you can use the photos as a guide. (Just quick examples: widen the roof vs. not, slanted or straight b pillars, how far to move the rear window forward and how flat to lay it down, etc., etc.)

    2) If something doesn't look right, stop and do it over.

    3) Frequently stand back and look at what you have from a couple different angles to make sure you have good flow.

There is no one right way to chop any car, but there is definitely the way you like best. Your numbers sound good, too. The farther you chop the harder it is to get everything back together and looking good.

Good luck, and post progress photos!!

I figure I better not chop it too much, I'm 6'7" and might not fit. :D

Thanks for all the advice guys. This is why I love the HAMB.

Hey I cut my A's and did it only on the inside and didn't slice the skin like a lot of others do and it worked out great. mine only needed to move about an 1/8" or less both directions top post and bottom now I only have the inner structure to weld up and no body panel to fix! If ya need pics to help ya better understand just say so and ill get ya some! Just as said before find what you like and what you don't and make dang sure you don't make it look like the ones you don't like!

  18. Exactly. I think you may regret it later on down the road.

It looks dang good to me as is...

I'd like to see it too. Can you post it here, or did you do a build thread?

drink excessively for up to 10 hours prior to the first cut'\, that was my plan on my 49 StyleLine and everything worked out fine. 7" in the rear 6' front slanted the post.

  26. I say chop it hard! Take your time in the layout!!!

Research and get pics. there are far to many over done chops on shoeboxes. Back window to flat, crown off. Its seems people over chop to just to have chop rather then class.
You shoe is in great shape, please I mean please dont be another victim of overdone, flat, bad back window placement.
