They are both taken in Avondale near the Distric line. I believe that it is the same site just looking in opposite directions. The guy with his foot on the frame is Gene Darnell and he was at the Jalopyrama last Oct. I think he was the owner of the Deuce.
Check out the two younger guys in the second photo on the right, looking on. I can just imagine their thoughts...."isn't this fun, this is what the cool older dudes get to do." Wonder how many of us got the old car bug just like the two of them, watching an older brother or just some guys in the neighborhood thrash on an old hot-rod?
Here I am with my bicycle watching my neighbor and his buddies work on his A-Bone, 1954, he's still drag racing at 73! YES......I got "the bug" from watching my older brother and his buddies working on their HOT RODS, KUSTOMS & FAST A$$ SIKKLES ! RIP BRO.
Great reminder of how it used to be. With nine guys hangin out we probably would have tried to just pic the engine up and set it out. Very reminiscent of fun days.
The roadster actually belonged to a friend of Bill Kneesi. I don't think it had a motor in it when Bill got it, at least not a running motor. Bill came up with a Mercury and aluminum heads as I remember. Bill made a few passes in C Street Roadster C/SR. The motor was relatively mild so the car was not real fast. After a couple of months and several passes it went back to the owner never to be seen again. A little more info from some one who is in the picture.
My MG was built in 1962 a bunch of friends along with "Willie the welder Feyh" built the car in 4 days and nights. It had a Rochester fuel injected 283 bored out to a327 and a 4 speed. Picture #4 is at Westhampton drag strip that following weekend. Pat
There's a nice assortment of old iron in that first pic.I wouldn't mind having any of them right now.
