What was your first speed equipment part?

Single to two barrel carb adaptor from JC Whitney so I could put the 2 barrel carb from my friends 318 onto the 194 on my mom's Chevy ll wagon.

 

Chet Herbert solid lifter cam for my friend's 301 Chevy. 300 degree - .450 lift (did not know about "duration @ 0.50 yet)!!

Started selling speed equipment out of my folk's garage while in high school.

It was great to have speed equipment warehouses in Dallas!!!

Hurst three speed floor shifter for my 55 Chevy. Replaced the three on the tree.

 

No name SBC valvecovers, just like the Graffiti coupe has. Why? Because the Graffiti coupe has them. Hey, I was 15 and impressionable.

My first part was a 2 barrel intake made by Berry and Chung for a DCD weber onto a Hillman Minx 1500 cc and was the best car I ever had - at the time. Man I used to think that car was cool with it on 13' widen rims dcd wber ,a free flow onto a 1 3/4 exhaust pipe and a tonne of chroming - probably didnt go much faster but boy it looked and sounded the part

 

A Holley 780 DP List# 4779... Still have it....

 

Corvair Turbo Mufflers/Dual Exhaust System (that I bent up, worked at a muffler shop when I was a youngin'). Followed shortly afterwards by a Tri-Power setup that I received for my 18th birthday from my parents........

Lets see.Glass pack muffler.Back about 1963.Then in about mid 1964 a bunch of friends conspired with my Mom and hijacked my car one day when I was at work and did some "slight"up grades to it,for FREE.The 53 Stude got a 327 Chebby and a Muncie 4 speed and a complete re wire,and all new 12V bulbs.
Took about 5 days with 6 guys working on it.What a fun car that was then.

My first ever swap meet,I was Probably around 13 years old. my dad gave me $20 for the day. About 20 min. Later I came back to him with a crusty set of cal custom "badger scoops" for a 3x2 set up. He said "cool how much?" I told him 20 bucks. Then he almost choked on his hotdog. He figured I wasted the money on some junk. Well 15 years later I still have them and am running them on my hotrod.

 

65 issue M/T valve covers for Pontiac from the swapmeet. Oddly one had the edge of the fins cut down in the exact manor to clear the A/C pump bracket on my 60 Ventura. They were really out of place on the fully loaded boat but those and some Torq Thurst made in mine.

 

An indy 3 speed shifter and 1 bbl to 2 bbl adapter for my '63 Falcon. Got them from Competition Speed Specialty in Torrington, CT. Summer or 1973. Don't remember where the carb came from, some junk car I'm sure.

A pair of "Thrush" straight through glass-packs for my 63 1/2 Galaxie with a 390. I was 15 and not old enough to drive(legally). Man what a sound! At least I thought so at the time. Nothing like being a kid, when its all so fresh and new.

A header for my 65 bug. First car I got at a closed bid auction for 127.97 had a droped valve in #3 cylinder go figure.

 

Webco "hot head" for my HT-1...my dad didn't understand taking off a perfectly good head...

Edelbrock aluminum intake for my 64 chevelle. Bought it at "Super Shops" - bunch of dumbasses standing around in that joint back then (sometimes I was one of em). Took me two tries to get the right intake, I didn't know there was different rochester 4 brl carbs then. Mine had (still has) the 4gc square bore instead of the spreadbore quadrajet style. Took me an hour trying to fit that f***ker on till I figured it out. Then they were closed for the night.
Still on there and works good - Almost 25 years now

My first speed equipment part was a clothes dryer.

In high school, I tried to supercharge my 1st truck by attaching the blower wheel to the alternator pulley and the blower housing to the alternator's adjusting arm. I duct-taped some dryer hose to the engine's breather snorkel. Now I had a blown engine! I don't know if it made any more horsepower, but it did run. It eventually all rattled loose so I took it off.
