I'm building a Dart block windsor based 454 for my 64 Fairlane......one of those would go very nice in a falcon/comet.....

Love the different ideas on what's the best motor/trans combo. I am just surprised no one has tried a V10 like a 6.0 or 6.8, heck a turbine motor... Although both would be expensive I'd imagine.

    Late 80's to early 90's BMW M5 and 5spd. 3.5L, OHC.s, 24valve, F/I, inline 6. 300+ bhp and 25mpg hwy. in a 4K lb car. Buy a parts car for 3K and use everything that will unbolt.

Falconeer hit it on the head. Go roller 302 and 5 spd. I have a 62 2 dr comet sedan with an Explorer GTP 5.0, 93 cobra t-5 and a cut Explorer 8.8 with stock 3.73 and traction loc. Low 20's in mileage, low 13's quarter mile through exhaust and street tires and a tire roaster when needed. Also doing a 500+ ci 460 with gforce 5 speed and 5.25 gears in my tubbed and caged pro street car. I know it's off topic but if you go with stock EFI on a 5.0 and a 5 spd, it's like having a mustang in falcon clothing. And we know what the 5.0 mustangs did during the late 80's-early 90's. Love to do a coyote 5.0 in one of my many falcons though. Someday......someday.

You need to slice the center rib on the shock tower off and then plate it with some 1/8" plate. It is a two hour job. A 289-302-5.0 will now drop right in using '65-'66 Mustang Tri-Y headers.

As far a 6's go, I'd say go with a 250. Replaced a 200 with a 250 and it was night and day difference.

  11. Spot on correct had a 61 Ranchero with a 289auto worked great, was offered stupid money for it within a month so it went down the road.

For all around performance, I like a 289 with good cylinder heads. Nice aluminum intake. Motorcracft 4100 carb. T-10 or toploader 4 speed. It will fit nicely, run like a champ, and be very reliable. The 302 option also is basically the same, you just have the option for the one piece rear main seal roller block. I have one with a 260 crank in it now.

Did a 283 in a 60 Falcon, using Wally Park's Comet as a model. Worked out real good for a 60's driveway no money build. Might have had $500 in it.

289 t-10, 4.11s. Its the right thing to do.T-5 if its gotta be a daily. When I was a young guy, shared a '64 ht with a couple friends with my solid lifter 302, another buddys toploader and 4.89s. One of those deals where no-one had enough for a finished deal, so we pooled our resources. fun car...

  21. MY recipe for a bad ass 60-65 falcon or coment

remove inner fenders /shock towers install a straight axle slightly forward of wheelwell centerline . install stackinjected 427SOHC fenderwell headers blowproof bellhousing toploader 4 speed , 9 inch rear moved forward a few inches (2-4) stretch the rear wheelwells just enough to make it look a stock kosher . 10 inch slicks with about 15 inches of ground clearence all the way around . throw a teardrop bubble scooped hood over the beast between the fenders and drive to your local drag strip and enjoy

ive been looking into these falcons for a daily driver/ weekend racer. doing a lot of research as well.

everyone wants a v8. but i6 are so underrated plus they look right at home.
    the way i like it. 60-63 falcon, 200 or 250 i6 /T5 & bronco/ranger 8.8 rear or maverick 8"

the falcon six head were severly limited with their cast log intake manifold to the head, untill classicinlines came out with an aluminum head & intake manifold based off austrailian falcon sixes... big gains in power with greater fuel economy than a 8 cylinder. pair this with a good set of gears & sticky tires, will give many v8's a run for its money.

Did a '61 back in '69. Changed to 289 auto from 200-6 stick, used mustang motor mounts, throttle lingage, moved batt to oposite side. Had a buddy make frt. support from exhaust tubing that went under engine (like a U) and bolted to where motor mounts bolted to lower towers. Used mustang floor shifter , put overload coil shocks (I think from rear of torino) in front towers to help hold wt. as I did not change frt. coils to v-8 Mustang. VERY low budget, ran great Datsun 260-280 14' rims will bolt to 4 lugs axles. Ran black walls, babymoons, what a sleeper. Made a lot of $20 bills street racing in central Fl. in late 60's w/ it.

I want an injected 427 SOHC for my 63 Fairlane. They are pretty cheap compared to the 200 inline 6 and fit without any shock tower mods. My local Car Quest has them in stock, but they do not offer the injected option.:(

This would look cool under the hood of a Falcon.... Or any other ol' school Ford with a 289-302...
