So it looks like I toasted an axle bearing on my roadster. I have ZERO experience w/ these olds/poncho 9.3 rear ends and assumed I'd be able to pull an axle like on a Ford 9", but that does not seem to be the case since I can't get the damn thing out.

What's the standard procedure to remove axles out of these things?

Remove the 4 axle retaining bolts and use a slide hammer to pop out the axle. Sometimes they are very tight and don't pull out as easily as the 9".

Did that work? Sometimes you can use 2 pry bars, prying in an outward direction. Post the bearing carnage please!

Use a heavy chain rap it around the axle flange take the slack and whip the chain in the direction you want the axle to go.

Put the brake drum on backwards, and thread the nuts on just a few threads. Then, use the drum as a slide hammer.

Had a 9inch with an axle so stuck that had to chain one side to a truck and jerked it with another. The axle came out but the bearing was still stuck in the housing. had to carefully extract it with a torch. If it is too stuck to slide hammer some heat on the housing end might help. Hard on paint though.

  11. Learned that trick many moons ago on my 63 Impala S.S. I was 15 years old 400 hp and the stock rearend...Hell I still do it on my Olds axle!
