Yes, I remember Gil's Texaco! I was on a trip to the La Brea Tar Pits with my new girlfriend, Barbara, on September 17th 1965. We stopped because she had to do some feminine thing. What I remember about Gil's, was how clean the restroom was. It was like minty fresh, I guess that was because they had just replaced the cake in the urinal. Anyway, I thought it was a really cool rest stop....
Yes, Pass it everyday. It's now a Valero or I should say Arcadia Gas. It used to be a very kool full service station. Google it and you can have looksee.
I used to work there in high school. 1991ish. My daily at that time was a white '59 F100. I still have the truck today.
Can't figger the picture posting thing then you might have a hard time figgering how to put gas in the effie .... you sure you got the truck?
Hi there! My sister and I are Ray Thrailkill's daughters. He bought the station from Gil when we were very young and it was the family business for years. We spent long days at the station interacting with customers, cleaning windshields and "helping." We took many rides in that truck as Dad would use it to make service calls at the homes and work sites of customers who couldn't get their vehicles to the station. Many fond memories of Gil and his family. You have a piece of our family history. I hope it brings you at least as much joy as it brought us. Heck! I'm giddy just seeing the photos. Thank you so much for your post! What a wonderful trip down memory lane. ~ Diana
