    And then some!

Even Outram roads would be usable with that ground clearance...:D

absolutely! just wish i had a pic or two of a Dodge Challenger that used to be in Dunedin in mid to late 70s...huge feet under the rear and a even huger letterbox scoop on the hood. It was yellow and called Thunderchild from memory...

I clipped this ad from a "tradin times" type rag many years ago.....it blew me away at the time because I'd never seen a Squarebird get the street machine treatment. I'd always wished I could find better pics. So I was even more blown away when I saw your pics.....could it be the same car? Sure looks like it!

How did guys typically (if "typically" is appropriate here) deal with the X-frames on early GM cars when building these street freaks? Wasn't that always a big problem when trying to raise ride height on those cars?

I think my buddy Joe's '65 Satellite would qualify as a street freak. No mile-high stance or straight axle but the rest of the vibe is there. While these are old pictures, he still owns the car in the same configuration seen here.... only wheelie bars have been added. The car is an original 426 wedge/4-speed car that is now powered by a nitrous-assisted '68 Hemi, A-833 4-speed and 4.56 gears.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I'm sure it is. According to a friend of mine the car is in storage in the northeast and is still owned by the same family.

  13. I was born in the late 60s and had a subscription to Hot Rod in '76, so these style cars are heavy in my memory. Maybe I'll finish my front-engine Corvair street freak someday!

This car showed up at my friend's shop here in Austin a couple years ago. He thinks it ended up out at Jesse James' place. Not really a street freak, though - it's just got the axle flipped under the springs and way-the-hell-too-big tires on the back. "Deathtrap" would be a compliment for this one.

Back in the now closed "What we were doing in the 70s" thread, I promised to get a 70s message board going. It is ready. www.thestreetfreaks.com It is very much a work in progress, so don't expect HAMB-level professionalism. Enjoy.

This is the look I want on my truck I didnt even know there was a name or genre for it,"Streetfreek" I could get used to calling it that :D except Im more a fan of the real low in the front high in the back rake with huge meats in the back! and a scoop coming through the hood on a 40s or 50s car or truck.

  25. basically Street freaks were

over the top street driven racecar want to be look alikes many had enough power to backup the look most have more for looking good on the boulevardthe fact that many got that term gasser was only because the front end on both a lot of times had straight axles that's kinda where the similarity end.but no matter how you look at it Street freaks are bitchin rides
