We are regular visitors to L.A.Roadster Show and this year we would like to drive from L.A. to view Monument Valley. Is this trip worth while and are there any good and bad we should look out for. Thanks for any help.

It's real cold this time of year. Possible ??snow storms bad traveling. Can see the Route 66 towns. How about Las Vegas instead? Keep an open schedule and keep eye on the weather

  5. Monument Valley, just like the westerns that were filmed there. Stay there at the View Hotel, top floor for a beautiful view on a moonlit night and try the guided horseback rides if you can handle it. You Aussies are an adventures bunch. Just the car ride around the valley is good.

Monument Valley is definitely a cool place to visit but it's quite a ride from LA. It's about 600 miles.

I frequently drive through this region. It's beautiful and lots to see in the area. Sometimes wild burrows can be seen along the roadsides. The San Juan Inn sits overlooking the river, http://sanjuaninn.net/ in Mexican Hat, UT is very adequate and reasonably priced, with a diner. Just up the street is another little inn/restaurant billed as the "Home of the Swinging Steak" which is grilled on a wood fired constantly swinging grill. Kind of funny to see in action.

Just a little farther north is Natural Bridges National Monument, if you are going that far, don't miss this stop too. Many other little stops along the way, Mexican Hat formation, Goose Necks State Park (all pavement), then Moki Dugway which is a short gravel by-pass up the side of a high plateau/mesa. It is a slow climb so dust and rock chip damage should be not much concern. Views are incredible, I've been up and down it on the Harley many times.

Your route prior to the above and north of Flagstaff (top off fuel in Flagstaff) you want to be careful of Elk on the road, then once crossing the Native American reservations (Tuba City to Kayenta) the driving habits can be a bit culturally variable with slowness and unexpected pull outs. Livestock can escape to the highway too. Just be aware.

If your gonna be in the west defiantly Don't dare miss out on Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, 4 Corners, or Glen Canyon.
