I am in the process of doing the interior of my 49 Chev. I was wondering if anyone could give tips and tricks for laying new carpet. I dont want to end up with those nasy carpet bulges around the drive shaft tunnel. I am using rolled carpet not the store bought custom fit stuff.
I found industrial strength velcro at Lowes that works very well in tricky places such as tunnel and at firewall.
It is more of a house carpet that is not foamed back and it is fairly flexable. It is a good quality loop
You will have to cut the carpet around the tunnel and use a spray glue to keep it in position,,you will end up with a seam around the front of the tunnel and from the seam to the firewall. HRP
Not sure about the house carpet, but a heat gun really helped me stretch my pre formed automotive carpet into shape. The footwells were a bitch. It came in two pieces with the edges already hemmed. Another tip, get a hole punch and knock out 1/2" holes where bolts go through, the seat, gas pedal, etc. It helps to keep it from unravelling like a sweater when you catch a thread on the bolt.
Preformed carpet is much more forgiving and usually has a different type of backing that aids in the molding process,,the automotive carpet in rolls has a different backing. HRP
