Taped the shell on to see what's what. I don't think I want to chop it. looks damn good just like it is. 4 inches where it sits. What do y'all think?
We'll give it a while and see if anyone notices, haha. Looking for grill shell opinions! Chop or not?
Those wishbone mounts are perfect!! Looks like they belong there..Nice job! Although I must say they look a bit like more cast offs from someones AD truck I know of. I agree with general gow.. 2 or 3 inch section that shell. That zombie lips selfie is a bit much, that could use some chopping if you wouldn't mind
Agree a couple of inchs would bring it down more in line with the cowls slope . But it has a good early look stock like that. Plus you could get a decent fan on it. Whatever those bone mounts are , they are perfect.
Thanks guys. I'll do some photochopping and see what we need to do. I think the bottom needs to come up a tad, and the top can come down an inch or two. I was just trying to get away with not cutting it. I can't weld sheet metal for shit, haha.
If it was me i'd wait on cutting the shell until you have radiator in their at least. Maybe even get the thing driving so the springs settle and you can see how the car really sits. That way you can choose to section, or take little out on the sides to lower the chin, or both. The car looks killer btw. I'm gonna' build a '26....someday.
Thanks guys. I believe everyone is correct in that it needs a little cutting. Not much. I am having the radiator built to fit, so I need the shell done first. The I build a fake one for my radiator guy and he will build it from scratch.
That's pretty much exactly what I looked like after a week camping in a tent at Bonneville with no sun screen.
WHEW!! , Thanks, that's better..Now I can finally get some sleep..Last night was rough.. Like 3rd grade.
I got burned up the first year out there, never again. I will have to be creative if I think I'm driving this roadster out there with no top.
H.I. T's are not my THING, but watching every bit of your thread................I do "Dig" Salt Flat Racin' .........and you'ens build talents. Good Job !!!! Thanks. _________________________________________ Closest to Bonneville was two weeks after The Trials, In Sept., We had been up to Twin Falls, and Reno, Visiting Harrah's fabulose'o Car display, and had watched "Evil" smack to Snake River Canyon wall. Driving my buddies '49 Ferd Woodie. 6,000 miles in Eleven days. Such Fun. Oh yeah, We took a Run down The Salt in it. Smokie 2
Perhaps a bit to high, you planning on running a hood? Ever thought about one of them thar "newer" grille shells Or maybe leaning the duece shell back?
If you want to send me that shell, I will run it, haha. The collective was right, I chopped it up the other night and it looks like 3 to 4 inches out of it is about perfect. I'll get some pictures up over the weekend. Lots of progress this week. We get together tonight so we will get some more done. Now that the shell is close I need to resolve all the generator and fan placement problems, and I can get a radiator made up.
Here are the shell photos. Don't try this at home kids, unless you want to look cool. Took about 4.25" out. taped on
I needed to fix my bent up passenger side wishbone before we could relocate the mounting tab on the torque tube so I threw it in the press and straightened it out.
That was where things were as of wednesday night. I decided to wait until friday when my design consultant showed up for finish welding. I got the lug ready for relocation while he tackled the grill shell. Flipped it back over and installed the wishbones.
