For the last few years I have been trying to get rid of a rattle in the 235 in my 37 Chevy p/u that will eventually be fatal so I picked up another 235 and have been considering converting a early 235 to full oil pressure but I really like the Olds rocket,I have been offered a 57 J-2 motor and seriously considering it since it would be much quicker then a old stovebolt. I hate to give up on the 235 since over the last few years I have been making it look like a 216 and want to keep a six under the hood but I want another rocket powered hotrod and dont want to bring another vehicle home,to me the Olds rocket is the best motor GM ever made so I think I am going to give up on the six and put more power in the 37.

No question-the Rocket. Looks, power, looks, power,. Did I say they look great and make power? Go Olds, man.

Do it, and don't look back. I vote for the Olds.

I am going to measure the motor and see if it will fit in my 37,the Olds motor I really want is a 59 371 since I had one years ago but they are a little wider then the 58 on back. I spent so much time trying to make the 235 look like a 216 I hate to give up but it would be much more enjoyable and not have the usual boring 350/350 in it.

303, 324, 371, and 394 are the same across the back of the block.

I put a 59 371 in a 53 88 and it was definately wider then the 303 that was originally in it.

Look at the thread from yesterday "37 Pontiac sedan found"

It has a 57-58 Olds, engine compartment should be the same.

I have seen a couple 37-8 chevy coupes running Olds. They fit

J2 trips:410 to 415 Ft Lbs torque at 2600 ...Yikes

I'll trade you a Chevy 261 for that Rocket, I'd love to put that in my 46 Chevy truck!

Olds for sure. They fit well in there. I had a 371 in a 40 Chevy coupe a long time ago and it went in like it belonged.

I have a 1947 Ford coupe with an Olds 324 engine and had always wanted a J2 to put in it. Please let me know if you are not going to use the J2.

    A 371 is a 371 is a 371.
Then the front of the block would be just as wide. He should have clairified, he was talking about deck height.
