Did you look underneath to make sure that wasn't a load-bearing emblem?

I'm thinking it's a Buick thing. My 60 LeSabre was the same way when I started shaving it. Holes galore.

Well I ended up with the Hemi and it's going in my 32 sedan. It's a nice safe place for it! Haha mocking it up now to build motor mounts.

For about five years, I've been wanting a 65 Riv again. My friend just traded for a 66, not the same. I will continue looking. Your car will sparkle!

I would say there were some babies eaten...Because I doubt the same guy designed my grandpa's Riv...

    Then...

    Hey,

The Rivi design came outa Bill Mitchel's love of the line of late 50s Ferraris & british coachwork on the "razor edge'' designs on Rolls Royce & Bentley vehicles from the 30s-50s. When you study those designs, ya see very little '' tinsel & glitter '', they're mostly all line and form! Most big name designers spent awholelotta time at auto shows in europe in the 50s.
The many '' stud holes'' in those zamac cast Rivi enblems were there to insure that when ya ran your new Rivi thru an automatic car wash, or hit a pot hole in downtown Detroit that the brand name hung tough, even if the fender skirts and back window frame had already started ta rot from the salt:eek:

Ryan you're on the right path with this car. Less is more with a Riviera. Guys get cute and chop them, flip the rear bumper and do other goofy shit to customize the car. They just fuck'em up. I had plans of shaving mine more. I changed my mind on the door handles and mirrors. Then I got to the ass end. I couldn't part with the emblem for the trunk key. I sat there and looked at it for an hour. I'm glad I left it. I carefully took it apart and re-painted the red. It looks good back there. It's the only emblem left outside. I had a guy tell me at a show. "That's a good looking Plymouth." How do you respond to that? I just said "Thanks".

  16. ^^^You did that car just right. A little clean-up, but not too much.

The reason why GM put 7 studs on a emblem is to it wouldn't lift and snag on everything that got wiped over it. Plus, if you're trying to advertise your car, how ghetto would it look if the corporate logo was hanging in the breeze with air gaps under it. That touch was one of the things that (to me) made the GM cars of that era so much better than the competition.

I've got some spy shots if anyone feels compelled to contribute a little moolah to the roadster project.. Just saying. ;)
