X2 on the coopers. I'm running em on the ot 68 deville and they're working fine. That said, I agree the size of the ww is dependent on the age of the car
Lippy's 55 above with the front bumper removed and black rims with narrow whitewalls is exactly what I remember as a mid-sixtys highschool car in the midwest.
i think certain years call for certain tires also like 20's- 38ish black wall 38ish -54ish wide whites 55ish-64ish narrow whites 65-74 raised white letters or red lines /goldlines, blue streaks to be pure but im gonna run i want and like so most of my cars will have raised white letters allthough i was going to run 1 1/2-2inch whites on my shoebox but i was having a hell of a time finding them
Proceed with caution on these Champiro GT's. I had to return two sets because of a bad yellowing problem. It occurred immediately after washing the blue stuff off. Within hours they looked dirty and within two days they looked 15 years old. The tire shop I bought them from (Performance Plus in Long Beach, CA) first replaced them with a second set, then had to replace them with a different tire altogether. I don't know that all Champiros will have this issue but thought I'd pass the info on. It's a major hassle having to mount, clean, dismount and repeat.
There was a narrow little window in the early 60's for narrow whites. Right between wide whites and everyone jumping on the black wall drag look. Personally I like them and am using them on my project car.
I've been struggling with this question for my 64 Mercury Monterey Marauder. I just bought chrome wheels and Shannon cones from Wheel kid but have not bought tires yet. Obviously skinny whites are correct. But WWWs look pretty damn cool Pic one is the old 14" with 1" whites. Pic 2 is with StevieNash's loaner WWWs. Opinions? Walt
It has nothin to do with the year of the car. It has all to do with the style you are goin for and wheel choice. A 40s/50s Chevy done in 60s or 70s style would have to roll on skinnies. Of course it doesnt apply to 60s and newer cars were skinnies are the only stylish option, even thou some guys like the 1 inchers. Examples: The double and triple skinnies were a 60s tire, if i remember correct Cadillac offered them on certain models. There are really little pictures of kustoms of the 60s with them, but i think they are proper sweet.
Of course it depends on the car and wheels, but if you like NARROW the pinstripe white is one of my favorites. But damn, they are as expensive or even more than the wide whites.
I got my first set of NARROW white walls in 1959. They were the cool thing at that time. Amy way I thought soooooooooo
Same here! I can think of at least 2-3 cars in the HS parking lot in Ohio with that wheel/tire setup!
Wides look good clean but who the heck can keep 'em clean I prefer skinny or black wall. WW are just too much white. Tires need to be black.
Here's my 55 crown victoria, I'm running B.F. Goodrich silvertowns on Sears Rader wheels in the front and American racing torque thrusts in the rear. I was going for something that looked like it cruised the streets around 64/65.
A lot of this has to do with the age of the owner. When I was a kid everything that was more than 5 years old had wide whites. The first thing any hot rodder would do was take the wide whites off. Even if they could only afford to put on a set of Porta-Walls. There is nothing wrong with wide whites if that is what you like but they are not period correct if you were living in the early sixties. I like the narrow whites even if most people think I am just too cheap to buy the wide ones. John L
If it worked for the style youre going for then im all for it. My last couple cars had this whites as opposed to wide and i was happy with the end result.
Try to find this combo today. Gold car, gold pin stripe tires. Anyone know what the wheels are? Can't remember.
WOW. This combo is bad ass. Im sure these tires arent easy tocome by and sure not cheap. Honestly, id give a nut for a set of 4 spoke Raders...Thumbs up dude. Oh btw, your Torque Thrust look like Supremes Must be a real rare set
