Thanks guys! Plans are to just get it running and kinda leave it as is for now. I would like to re-do it all one day but right now I'd really like to just ride it.. No mice in the interior. I too hope the frame is all good. Grandpa died and they parked it. And yeah, the front has a few signs of possibly his failing eye sight.lol... The rest of it seems to be in pretty good condition considering though.
Time changed the perception of these cars. I think that looks are the reason. In the late '60s I worked for a Cadillac dealership. There were still some '59s coming in for service and repair. The mechanics tended to roll their eyes when one came in. Although the cars weren't too bad, they were troublesome compared to Cadillacs made prior. Production was actually stopped so some fixes could be created and tested. When it happened it had been many years since the last time it had to be done. Not trying to take anything away from your "new" car, I envy you. Just posting some perspective.
That's awesome, my wife and I have got a 60 Cad Coupe which is a very close sister to the 59, but it doesn't have those enormous wings. We love ours - I hope you have good luck and good fun with yours. Cheers.
Greetings! The way that barn is leaning you'd better hurry. I don't mean to rain on your parade but from your pictures I see rust bubbles and heavily corroded trim, when you drag it out into the light make sure the frame and floor is solid before you decide to drag it home. Get it on a lift and check the frame under the cowl, around the trailing arm mounts, rear spring pockets, and from there all the way to the rear. One peculiarity to these era GM cars is if they saw road salt, you can tell if they were single exhaust - the side with the pipe will be solid, the side that didn't will usually be about gone if it saw a lot of winter driving. You're far enough south it shouldn't be too bad if bad at all, but it's worth a throrough examination.
Rad. Based on the door panels, it looks like a 62 series coupe. My Dad has one that was originally painted white with an identical interior. Have fun with it. We updated some of the mechanics but still have most of the old parts around. Let me know if you need anything...
Me and my mother own a 59 series 62... and its pink... Belonged to my grandfather... its a head turner for sure!!!
Sweet find. How long had the grandfather had it? Also are you a Mopar guy or Ford guy, either way I'll gladly trade you a '62 Imperial or '62 Lincoln for it. I'm definitely keeping my eyes open for a '59 Caddy of my own. As far as holy grail Cadillac though, perhaps a mid to late 30s 90 Series would be more in line especially one of the custom one off cars based on the roadster and phaeton that were in the catalog, but unordered.
