Projects 1930 Plymouth Tudor build thread

Still a newbie I've built lots of bikes and been a gear head my whole life.
I was wanting to do a model A Tudor but ended up finding this 1930 Plymouth Tudor instead. I guess there were only 7890 of these built so what better of a reason to chop it up.

Had to set the tires and radiator up to see how she looks lol

 

One door would open but not close. The other wouldn't do either. Heated and pb blasted the crap outa them the latches worked but with only the roof holding the cowl and doors in place it was doing some pretty funky stuff. So I measured, braced, etc until I got it back to normal until I do permant structural work

 

Here is the permant roof work that I did. I used angle iron and massaged, cut, welded, grinded it into position. I still need to finish it.

 

Don't really have a plan I just want it low chopped loud and respectable. Well see I guess

 

Door hinges and mounts are messed up bad. Anybody have any solutions?

Don't worry! Never liked rodents anyways. Eventually she'll get a nice pagen gold paint job but that will be years and years down the road

 

Another Mopar guy in WI, great car. The only problem is I see is the honda word on your toolbox, should read Yamaha, just kidding love the car.

 

Where in wi are you? Btw if u look to the left of it you'll see an aluminum stator cover attached to the tool box

Try Model A hinges. They may be similar.

 

I am watching and liking what path you are heading on, as for the hinges, you should be able to fit a generic aftermarket hinge in there place, pretty easy to get and fit in fact, you going to leave it swing normal or maybe swing suicide ? would look cool seeing such a big door swing backwards !

 

Great start to the project. Ditch the hinges and go with either model A hinges or something aftermarket. Will be following this one. Looking good!

 

I have never really been a fan of suicice doors unless its on a 4 door car. I am going to check out McMaster Carr. They sell pretty much anything and I'm sure I ca find some some sort of hing with bushings. I want the doors to open and close really nice. Anyone have any ideas to upgrade the mechanism itself? It would be nice to retrofit a new style latch and door striker.

 

This is not really car related but I'm sure most of you will dig it.

Yea the front windshield is definatly gonna need to be opens up. I will also lower the dash so it is flush

 

Ok so my shop neighbor came over and was in love with the project. BEFORE I GET YELLED AT READ THE WHOLE THING lol. He said he would sell me a running s10 frame with everything except box. I will not stick an s10 chassis under this don't worry! But for $100 it may be worth it for driveshaft, yoke, rear end. And front disc brakes. My question is this. I want to go with a solid axle in front, is there anything out there to adapt s10 brakes to a stock style model A or aftermarket style axle?

 

Hey Buddy, Are you chopping the rear window too ? That would be cool to see also, you could probably take a 2 inch chop out of it and if you do it right you can cut and refit the side curves back in to the rear window to make it look even more slimelined ovaled shape. I love the side profile and the front will look good when you reopen it up to the same as the sides. What you score cheap is what you score cheap, i just hope later on you get the opportunity to get a Mopar in that bad boy. Keep us up to date with the build buddy.

I did som research about this radiator and can't find any info. It is a Harrison.
Anyone have a clue

Cool project. There is a great thread on here about making your own hinges. They were for a Model A but concept is the same. I used the thread pics and made my own for my Model A Slant doors. Do a search on "model a hinges".

 

Got the rear window finished up tonight

So I'm thinking of painting the whole thing red oxide primer with the body lines a gloss black with a gold pin striping. What do you guys think?

 

Hey Charles, your color combo sounds pretty cool buddy. Have you thought about putting the little curved parts of the back window back in so it is not such a sharp junction, it would make the back window look much nicer, if you can hold up the piece you cut out and take a picture to see what i am talking about, that may be easier to visualize ? what do you think . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
