Well, that 64 is at least a 390 car given the flags on the fender, but with those caps and the bumper guards, I'd guess it was a loaded 427 car, and the theft story probably isn't far from the truth!

That Galaxie story could be true, the tires on the front have almost no tread wear on them! Anyway to see the VIN to see if it truely is an R code?

Look like Firestone gum dipped on the front, Maypops on the back.

Would have never believed that story.
Looks like somebody yanked the motor, trans, and 3rd member?
I have to believe its true because of the tires.

Does anybody know the real story on this Galaxie? When and where was it found? It looks like fresh water - I wonder if the motor, if it is a 427 could be brought back to life.

  6. Yeah, and someone on the HAMB would be willing to blow air in those Firestones and run 'em....

  7. I'm not a Ford guru by any means, but do the "wings" on the bottom of the fender indicate it was anything special?

Look closely it does not have a motor, trans and rear end center section If it did have a 427 it was probably stolen and the good drivetrain parts taken out and then dumped in the lake.

I don't remember if the 352 V8 had wings or not, but the 390 and 427 did. I also don't remember if they still had a 406 in '64. Too tired to look it up.

I know more of the story on it, but it's a lot more fun watching people make shit up.

BTW, it's in Chilhowee lake in Tennessee, this and a lot of other cars and parts came visible when they lowered the lake to work on the dam in 2008. People were not allowed to take anything out though for some strange reason. there was a lot of speculation as to whether these cars were all dumped stolen cars, or just dumped scrap, most of it turned out to be just dumped scrap.

The original photographer can be found here, she has a lot of photos of the lake, some are pretty interesting.

Man I thought the normal sitting and rotting stuff was sad but the " water burial" pics are another level of sad cause you can't save them.

sorry, but that article (along witht the whole newspaper, for that matter) is mostly rubbish. If you look at the pictures, a lot of those cars are later 60s and 70's european sedans, the gauges are marked "olio" and "benzin" and one of the cars pictured is plainly a 1960-ish Ford Anglia ala Harry Potter- hardly ww2 GI vintage.

the daily mail writers are amongst the laziest I have ever had the misfortune to do business with

  22. Holy mopar graveyard!!!!!!!!

  23. Thanks for clarifying that. Being as I'm not that familiar with european cars I didn't want to say anything but I thought when I saw that picture that the cars looked 'newer' than WWII vintage.
