    Hi,

I have a question concerning the Cadillac 1959.

On some cars, you see the fins like that, molded...

And on some others, you see it like this.

See the Chrome that finishes the shape of the tail lights into the fins ?

Is it an option ? Is it dedicated to a certain model ?

    Thanks for your help.

    Nicolas.

PS : Happy New Year from the France to all Hambers !!!

Looks like someone put Fleetwood trim on a Deville.

The chrome extending forward of the tail lights is the trim on the Fleetwoods, but they had the side molding come together (with a door scoop not in this pic):

Sevilles and Eldorados had really cool trim wrapping the qtr panel and extending through the rockers:

Actually, after checking the serial number, my Cad 59 has the M code, meaning it's a Fleetwood. So, it's normal to have this option. Curiously, it does not have the side trims of the Fleetwood, but the ones from the DeVille.

Do you know the specific options of the Fleetwood ? What makes it different ?

Cadillacs of that era were defined by the style number, located on the tag under the hood, right in front of the w/s wiper arm. The number should read Style 59-XXXX. The Xs define the body type and style. A Fleetwood would have style # 59-6029

I am not sure what M you are talking about, but letters in the serial number usually were a reference to engine type or accessories. (4 bbl vs 3 2bbl carburetor, A/C or Non A/C, etc)

Post or PM me your Serial number, I'll can decode it with the factory manual.

I was mistaken (First time :D), the M does indicate Fleetwood. K indicates a base sedan (6 window) I was thinking of the engine serial number not the body number. My registration shows Ser # 59M7xxx

No problem Curly. You helped me a lot.

    Mine is a K so standard 62 serie 6 windows 4 doors.

This tail light extension... was it an option for other models in 1959 ?

Could it be an aftermarket part ?

I believe the rear door scoop and special trim was only available on the Fleetwood 4-door hardtops but I could be wrong.. does anyone know if anybody is reproducing those rear door scoops at this time?
