just picked up this 61 this weekend.i want to make it a mild custom.its really clean and the 401 runs great.i want to paint the roof but not sure on panels or the whole thing.also how about exhaust bellflower or sidepipes?how about wheels? shoot me some ideas and even pics of what you guys would do.i plan on driving this car ALOT.( even gots a/c !)
i love cragars,i have a set of caddy hub caps with bullets already.i dig chrome steelies too.aghhh the pressure!!
Man that thing is sweeeeeeeettttt. Metalflake the roof, put some wide whites on it and leave the hup caps on.......DRIVE IT!!
Do the whole roof. I think that kind of car looks bitchin with a metalflake roof. Just my 2 cents.... More flake the better I say......
i was thinking a nice candy red flake job on the whole roof with a little fade and some lace just to snazz it up a bit. im more excited about this car than anything ive messed with in a long time
Thanks, my car is going to have a metalflaked roof too soon! I wouldnt do wide whites on a car like this, skinny whites and supremes and you wont go wrong!
Back in the '70's a friend had a '61 LeSabre as his daily driver. It looked ugly but ran REALLY well! I'd do the 'flake roof and NARROW whitewalls...
im going with a 225/70/15 narrow whites, decided on the caddy hubcaps with bullets i have.(post pics later).bellflower pipes and the red flake roof.im trying to talk my pops into the lace, so far hes not havin it.paint will be soon ill be ordering it up this weekend. does any one make a set of coils for these or just cut em myself ?
That Buick has a really great roofline. If you were up for a bit of metal work, it would be a stunner with 2 door hardtop doors added and the rears deleted. But being the car is pretty nice, a lowering, some period wheels and new exhaust would give it the look without too much work. That's what I did on my '64 Olds. I have 14x6 Raders (OG 2 piece ones) on gold stripe tires but any wheels of the era could work, Drag Mags, Kustomags, Rockets, Cragar S/S, Supremes, chrome steel OE style, ect with a period looking tire (I agree on no wide whites, this car is a bit too modern to pull that off. I think clean and simple is the way to go on a big 4 door sedan. They can look nice as long as you don't try to overdo it or overcompensate.
I think Gene Winfield did a Caddy the same way. Four door roof with the longer two door doors and quarter panels.
heres the hub cap ill be running for now.sorry for the crappy pic im at work ,i had my 10 yr old take it and send it.
Dropping it is a must, astro supremes, pinner whites, bellflower tailpipes, and roof paint would be on my list too.
stitting pretty good right now, still gotta flake the roof and add the exhaust.did get her cleaned up and the caddy hubcaps on.
