Larry, that is the back to an alignment rack/pit. Ford had something similar. There's was called Rotunda.
Larry. That looks more like the cabinetry that hid the bulk 30 gal cans of grease and tranny fliuds ,most were in the lubrication bays of dealerships and nice service stations..grease and fluid dispensed from pull down reels..After all "Alemite" was the principal mfg of lube equipment
The garagejournal guys will step on each other's throats to buy that from you, hahah. Good luck and nice find!
And you lubed up a car when you did a wheel alignment. The shelving generally was for head units, shims, etc. and the pegboard would be for specialty tools. I could be wrong but I use to work in dealerships and service departments where I did alignments.
I'm gonna go back and dig them outta there resting place...maybe sell one to Ryan...I understand he's been looking for one...
Years ago I worked in a small Olds/Cad dealership that had one of those sitting in the corner. When the owner died and the place was closing up we hauled it to the dump because no one wanted it............................ Wish I could go back in time.
Larry, I do believe it was referred to as a lube rack. The HS where I taught auto tech still had one in 98 when I took the job. I sold it to a collector to help fund the program...
1, I call them awesome, beautiful. 2, looks like Christmas came a little early for you! Have a merry one!
There was also one of these Alemite roll around lubester robots next to the cabinets...this is just a pic of one I found online... Merry, Merry to all...
There was one in the SHELL STATION where I worked as a kid. Also had ALEMITE Wheel Balancer, attached to rim, you spun the tire with a motor and balanced the tire on the car. If you wanted to show off, you sat water glass on the fender, worked till the water was smooth......and yes dammit I'm OLD
Alemite is still selling lube equipt. We have a store here in town [Omaha] and it appears they've merged with Stewart Warner some time in the past...our store sells both Alemite and S/W stuff over the same counter.
I'm interested in your cabinets. I'll be down there from the 8th til the 12th at the Chili Bowl Midget races.
