Hudson tech! disc brake swap.

    if any of you Hudson owners are interested i just got a kit to put disc brakes on the front of my brother's '51 Commodore.
    i'll try to get some pics of how it's done in the next week or so,as the other parts show up.

    i'm still waitng for the other parts i ordered to come in (rotors,calipers etc.) but i should have the old stuff removed by tomorrow.
    by wed. i should have more pictures.

    Did you ever get to install this kit? I would like some info on it.Where did you get it from,how much $$$ did it cost,what rotors and calipers does it use???

    that's about where i am right now,just gotta finish welding the M/C bracket and run some new lines.

    I picked up a kit from a guy in Florida named William Labud Sr. if anybody is interested I have his address but I can't find his phone number. He is really active in the HET national club. I also have a list of the parts that were used in the conversion. Granada or Monarch rear discs 75-80 or Versailles 77-78 with Camaro or Nova calipers 69-74. I have a list with part numbers for the brake hoses, banjo bolts and brake pads.I sent my hubs to him and he machined them and sent them back with all the needed parts, right down to the nuts, washers and shims, to do the conversion. You can retain the stock master cylinder and it will work just fine. I didn't do the actual conversion myself, mecchanically braindead, but a friend did and it took about 4 hours if that. The only glitch was that due to running 14" wheels one of the calipers was barely rubbing against the back of the rim which made it sound like a wheel bearing was going out. It took Tony a little while to figure it out but once that was done they worked perfectly. I have had them on for about a year and a half now and there have been no problems at all. All total the kit was about $600. Bill is a really good guy and he will help you all that he can.

    do you know if his stuff goes back to '47? If I can get later model brakes adapted onto the '47 front end, I'll be doing just a rebuild and upgrade instead of a full blown swap. :D

    I'll be offering the original kit shown in this post (with the new hubs) within the next few weeks. The guy who designed it is no longer making them, so we have been working out the specifics to have more sets made.

    Bill Labud also used to offer a kit mentioned here. I talked with him about that as well, but his kit required modification to OE hubs and new rotors, and also used harder to find parts. Functionally both kits were good, but this kit is more complete.

    I'll be rolling with ths early in 2013, p-mail me with any questions or for more information.
