While cruisin E scrag , i found these old valve covers , ive never seen these before ,, these are so cool .What year-who made them. Kev
i was told long ago that the "af/x" moniker was used for J.C. Penney-marketed speed equipment of varying manufacturers; mostly of cosmetic/dress-up nature. they also made some Fenton-ish wheels so very likely it was a way for Fenton, etc. to get greater market penetration
I guess I must be a gittin' old. I never, in all my days, imagined I hear J.C. Penney stuff being described as "cool".
Regauardless of where they were sold or made they are cool. Vintage parts id. thread gets a one star?
Not to change subject or get off topic, but what's with the star rating system on here, and why does anyone pay attention to it? I don't even notice til someone brings it up!
I have a Dremel type deal that looks just like a new(er) style Dremel,size-wise 1/8 collet...single speed,,like 30,000 rpm (yikes!) It's blue & in a blue plastic case---JC Penney. My mom gave it to me for Xmas in '71 or 72.
I have a JC Penney 1/2" drive torque wrench that I've had for about 40 years. I ran JC Penney tires of my first '55 Chevy in the early 70's.
I remember our local JCP had an auto center that sold some of this stuff, and you could order it into the mid 70's. I have a set of JCP wrenches, they are really nice wrenches , they must have contracted to Snap-On as they have really nice smooth polished beams, and a nice ring to them. I think I got these around 78 or 79
Don't remember when they closed down the auto centers, but I remember them having them in 1970-71 anyway They were an out building from the normal store in Fla
I had a set of those chrome steel 14" AF/X slot mags that I sold last year. The guy I bought them from said he ordered them through the local J.C. Penny back in 1968. Cool wheels, wish I still had them.
this stuff is so kool , here in Canada we dont have a J C Penny . I dont know if canadian dept stores back in the day sold speed type parts back in the day . thanx to all for the info . Kev
I actually worked at a JCP auto center in the late 60's into 1971, and we sold AFX stuff then, Also had a chassis dyno and did some tuning, sold a lot of tires too.
I worked for JCP in the 60's -early 70's as an artist in the advertising dept . I remember doing all those ads back then . The cool thing ws that by using your corperate discount you could get some pretty good deals .
I had a similar set that said "Pro/Stock" instead af "AFX". They are the same casting as the old Weiand valve covers.
