Not sure if this Off topic or not, but I see a lot of toy and model threads, so I figured I'd post it. I started on this the day after thanksgiving, I started with some scrap sheet metal I had laying around, I cut the cab out with some shears, folded it around in a vice, and tack welded it together. I hammered the fenders out over a block of wood I carved, and the wheels are just cut out of a thin piece of wood with a jig saw. I really wanted it to look like a 30's toy, P1180744 by henry29 posted Dec 16, 2012 at 4:58 PM P1180738 by henry29 posted Dec 16, 2012 at 4:58 PM P1180760 by henry29 posted Dec 16, 2012 at 4:58 PM P1180779 by henry29 posted Dec 16, 2012 at 5:01 PM P1180772 by henry29 posted Dec 16, 2012 at 5:01 PM P1180775 by henry29 posted Dec 16, 2012 at 4:58 PM P1180798 by henry29 posted Dec 17, 2012 at 11:44 AM P1180776 by henry29 posted Dec 16, 2012 at 4:58 PM
Great job. I was a little concerned in the first couple of pictures that it was gonna be an "R" style.
Very cool! Winter break is coming up for the kids looks like a great project to keep them busy and in the shop. would love to see some more build photos.
Cool. I'd love to find one of those under the tree! It's never too late to have a happy childhood. Jim
Nice work. I just finished restoring a 40's truck and trailer ride on toy for one of my customers. Love old toy trucks!
that's really cool, I don't think I've ever seen one and Ive seen a lot of toys. does it steer? is/was there a seat? who makes it? ..Henry29. post some pics of the chassis.
P1180783 by henry29 posted Dec 16, 2012 at 8:28 PM Wow!, thanks I don't have any more pics while building it. The chassis is just a piece of sheet metal with the ends folded over and tabs soldered on for the axles. The axles are just nails with the ends flattened with a hammer. All the seams and hammer marks I filled with 50/50 solder and sanded smooth.
nice job. i started building a 30 roadster at work but i built an a frame a quickchange rear sucide front and the body and all is made out of 1/4'' steel and boy is it heavy,i have to do some grinding and redo my back raidus rods.welded it out with 045 wire with a 250 miller, when i get a camera l'll post pic
a guy had a real big one at a toy show a few years back. had to be 18" long. I would like to flatten one and hang it on the wall. they are all one piece of sheetmetal. I do have a real rusty one, but it's so bad I doubt it would survive the flattening process.
Very nice, The thing is your 'old time' inspired toy is of such a high standard that it should live a long and happy life and just one day maybe some one will actually refer to it as an old toy - and it will be so. ....Cheers moe .
why not take card patterns from the real toy to create a net/ development/ pattern (your choice of term) similar to the original flattenned out, paint, patinate(dirty word) and stick that on your wall.
