I see the flat area too and I am pretty sure it is just the photo or just how long the roof is, I have full faith the car is in great hands and will be perfect when it is done. Jay I found you a few images of some other 54s from the back that might help. Wondering if you are battling a back window that isnt going to be forgiving.
Wondering if that is why Gene went with a differant window in this one that was done across the pond?
Hey, I think Zed is on ta something- if you cover the area where the B Post was with a piece of paper, you still see a slight flat spot, probably in large part caused by the fullness of the roof just above the backlight frame! Always a problem when chopping 50s type roofs is the damn curve & area of the backlight Sinking doesn't work all that well, without ushering in more problems to the build. Perhaps a smaller curved backglass & frame would answer for this, and a little work just above that frame to blend in the flow of the roof above the frame? That looks like a great build you've got goin' there! " Meanwhyle, back aboard The Tainted Pork "
Since this out-side profile picture was taken, I have moved the rear window forward 1 1/2" and raised the bottom/rear of the windo up 1". I also figured out to shape the peice to meet the window "corner" I will be back on it Monday. I will fit the rest of the trunck line and cover the gap in the sail pannel... It will have the right flow then.
If you guys look at the roof line in this photo, you will see that it is flat... it is not damaged, or sagging.... just made long and flat... [/QUOTE]
Wow, what an aesthetic improvement! It's like you are returning to what the designer created... before the production geeks got ahold of it. A mild chop & a little lowering always works to make the proportions flow and the art is returned to the subject. Kudos to you for not forcing your will into how far to cut the top... let the car tell you what it wants! That car is going to look sweet!
Managed to get away from work today and go by jays shop and get some updated pictures of the new back window location as well some to show the roof isnt as flat as that picture looks. Moving right along nicely.
Jay has the back window set in place with all the panels flowing nicely together, let us know what you think. We love to hear all the comments.
That is a big help james, really helps get a better view of the direction, How has germany been to you?
Jay, Here is a few pics of my 54 Plymouth chop. before and After. 6" chop, chassis swap to 1994 Caprice Cop Car (LT1 Corvette Engine, ABS Brakes, Fuel Injection, Sway Bars, etc) Cadillac Deville Tail Lights, Shaved Handles, and Shaved Gas Tank Cap, Channeled 6", Chrome Steering Column, Chrome Wheel, Power window Set up, New Metal floor pan, Cadillac Hubcaps, Stock back window that we laid down, Cut down front window, Fiero Seats, 1951 Mercury skirts and I temporarily sprayed the car with Satin Black Paint. would like to find beltline trim for a 2dr 54 I have a 53 that I want to two-tone but I hate the color break at the gutter. I didn't like it any better on my 55 ply either.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a HAppy new year, Jay has been kicking booty on the chop. He got the back window to flow nicely and has now been working on the b pillars and the clean up of the window framing. Hope you guys enjoy this as much as I am
