Hi. I've got a '55 Eldo intake (1463205) which take a couple Rochester carbs that are beyond my price range.

What other carbs can I use? I've seen a setup for sale on eBay with Edelbrocks but I'm not sure how I can expect those to perform and in the pix I don't see any linkages.

Can anyone chime in? Other than the Rochester 7007240/7007241 carb pair, what is working on that intake? do you have to cobble together the linkages?

    thanks

Any rochester 4jet should Work (with tuning) or wcfb's (more expensive)

thank you. sounds like I'd cobble together the linkage and fuel lines.

does anyone else have a particular example on which they've worked -- e.g., specific 4jets (I happen to have a '65 4jet laying around)

The 1955 Cadillac 2x4 used the early 4 barrel bolt pattern (3 3/4 x 3 7/8). Several carbs use this pattern:

    Carter WCFB (1952~1954,5)
    Holley 2140, 4000
    Rochester 4GC (1952~1954,5)
    Stromberg 4A

The reason for the "4,5" above is that different car makes changed to the rectangular base in different years. Most 1956 and newer carbs will require an adapter, if there is sufficient space on the intake to mount two adapters.

Jon is far more experienced than I, but I thought the WCFB and 4GC used the same bolt pattern through the end of production in the early '60s.

I use both the WCFB and the 4GC on my Packard Caribbean 2X4bbl intakes. The Rochesters are still pretty common, but most will need a rebuild.

FWIW, I've used the Edelbrock 500 CFM on the older intakes. They will bolt on, but some require enlarging the secondary butterfly holes and some grinding on the linkage.

Whichever way you go, plan on hours of making linkage, fuel lines, vacuum lines, choke wiring or piping.
