How many of you chopped your own car?

How many had someone else to do it?

I'm not judging. I'm just curious.

I cut mine myself; but I consulted with a veteran first, and did a lot of studying, roof taping, and more than a little drinking for encouragement.

To my relief, it turned out great. :)

  2. Me and my ol man did mine. First time for both of us doing a 50 ford.

If you take your time, know where to cut, and know your welds, it all can be done.

when i bought my 34 sedan it was already cut they had cut way more than they should and it was up to me to put everything back together, it took some time, first hot rod but it turned out good, not as hard as a 50's car

I do all my own, but I'm not too proud to ask for advise. Pretty much whatever you want to do, somebody here has done it and can walk you though it or show a few pics.

I have an extra 46 Chevy 4 door I'm going to chop just so I can say I've done it. I have no plans for the car and have tried to sell it but noone has had any interest in it so this shall be it's fate.

  12. I've done all my own. 4 total. Want to do more, but I really can't see buying any more cars! ;) I've chopped almost every car I have. Might section my stude....but not this year

I did my own chop but did use Tommy Steadman's how to video. It is an excellent video and I would recommend it to any one chopping a ford or Merc for the first time.

This is the second 4 inch I've done. Still have garnish mouldings and the rear inside shell to chop, but I have the glass ready.

4 inches is perfect for the truck. I took out 3 1/2 on the Merc and wished I had taken out just a little less.

  17. Took 1&1/2" out of my stude. I think that was enough. Straight down in back and leaned the post. Actually my students did everything but weld the sheet metal!

    Thank you!

I Know I can do it, been reading, & looking at all the info & pics of successful like chops. ( Several of them are member's here )
But since I have a few friends standing behind me to see if I pull the whole thing off, I am a bit nervous.

    Here is my Build thread

I have chopped two myself. I chopped the English Ford in about 2005, because I figured that everyone should chop at least one top, just so I could say " yeah I did that". I learned a few things on the first one, which made the second one easier, not easy, just easier. The English ford is chopped 4 1/2", the Plymouth is 3". Bob
