Lots of good choices here, I liked any built motor with a set of Cherry Bombs behind it. Something I didn't hear too often but thought was cool, was a built 235 with a split header, but if were also talking airplanes, I once had the opportunity to be in the cockpit of a B-29 with all 72 cylinders lit, an experience I'll never forget!

SHELTONK7 mentioned a good one. Take in a 2 cycle Detroit in a antique tractor pulling a sled and you will be saying WHAT?? WHAT?? fer sure!

You can't run an engine on 100% nitro. Nitro doesn't burn on it's own ,you have to have 2% combustable minimum or the engine will hydraulic.

At the five mile mark they all sound like they are in neutral:eek:

But standing on the straight away bridge at the old Riverside California track and listing to the Can-Am McLaren hitting high gear with the big block chevy is unforgetable. Chills

While i'm prejudiced towards Yblocks & flatheads I've heard many great sounding engines of all makes. Let me add Harleys in the mix.

  17. Yes definitely!

There's nothing like the sound of a Shovelhead or iron head Sportster with 1-3/4" drag pipes. [IMG]

When I hear a Harley, and it happens all too often, all I think of is 'poor engineering' and 'slow'.

Noise from an engine is great when the engine has a reason to be noisy.

  19. I am glad you mentioned that, I was going to say something but I blew it off.

Actually the most knowlegeable flathead guy that I know of says that on 50% you were lucky to get through the weekend with a flatty. He says you could run one on 50% way back when everyone else was running valve in head engines, blow it up and be running another the next week end.

I love the sound of a y block with glass or steel packs. Now that I have an FE I've grown pretty fond of that sound too...

Poor engineering has lasted the test of time for DECADES with no reason to change. Yep must be a bad design. Or maybe its a classic case of getting it right the first time.

45*, single pin crank, knife and fork rods

  25. Hey Vic, allow me to correct you..... It's been over a CENTURY of quality two-wheelin'.

  26. Well lets see 200,000 miles on a 35 year old bike, Wendover to Salt Lake city in 34 minutes, yea that's poorley engineered and slow. I'll have to buy me a CB 750 for damned sure.

  28. Well there is a place for highwinding jap bikes, but they don't allow outhouses in most major cities anymore.
