A blown fuel hemi that you feel in your bones more than you actually hear.

For the street, pretty much anything well tuned and running the right carbs, cam, exhaust that the sound of idle tells you it is gonna sound even sweeter when the driver gets into it.

For me, one of them big multi layered round engines. You have just got love those old P&W's. And when I say P?W's it is not one of the old JT8's, those things are nasty leakers. But I liked watching the planes with the JT8's, take off on a very hot day fully loaded blowing black smoke on climb out.

I also, like a Y block with smithy's on the ground.

Interestingly at shows where there is usually one of everything, sometimes the engines which get the most comments for good sounds are the older V8s with the center two cylinders siamesed into one port - early Cad, Olds, Stude, Packard and of course, the Ford flathead.

Flying, there's never, ever, been anything like the B-36. All B-36s featured six 28-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major 3,800 hp radial engines. When 168 cylinders, 22,800 horsepower were rumbling overhead, women fainted, weak men cowered and strong men ejaculated.

  7. Well, since it said powerplant, and folks started with Air Planes, tractors, and such, here's something different for you
There is nothing like the Mile, but wait until about 1 minute in and you will hear the Angriest motor ever ! And the only man who could tame it!

i like the sound of a y-block with a mild cam in a custom, a sbc in a street machine, and a flathead in a hot rod and almost any big block with a blower in drag racing they all have a sound that grives me chills

Sure took long enough for someone to step up with the right answer -- EARLY OLDS and a few others.

Here's another angry sounding motorcycle, the Honda RC166. This one is only 250cc, has 6 cylinders and it's a four stroke !

The Offenhauser four on Alcohol. At night the blue flames from the individual exhaust tubes even make it better.

  19. I'm fortunate enough to have heard many in person(in engine?),and there cannot be just one choice. Too damn difficult.

Someone split their vote and received no demerits,so I will as well.

Land: Ford SOHC. Blown(just a 6-71). On nitro. At full song. I've heard one. Made my willy tingle.

Air: Any radial Pratt and Whitney. We had a B-17 come into town years ago;I worked near the airport and was fortunate to have seen and heard it often for a few days. Glorious sound.

Lots of good ones here and probably safe to say I'm not the only one leaving people scratching their heads as I dart from the house when I think I hear radials overhead.

    Here's some more ear candy.

Absolutely correct, nothing like the sound of an aircraft radial.
