Let's see some low cars on leaf springs...NO BAGS...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by GREASER815, Nov 26, 2012.

  1. Original springs with 2" blocks, getting ready to cut more on the front springs and go to a 3" block.

My old 49 Dodge and my current 51 Chevy. Both with cut front coils/stepped control arms in the front and de-arched leafs/blocks in the rear.

My old 50 was low enough that the mufflers would drag on a gravel road and I hit a rock with the front crossmember on a gravel road, rolled it up and bent the clutch linkage once. I had to replace the exhaust on my T Bird after I drug it coming into my driveway. Bags are for sissies.

  7. Do you have any pictures of the de-arched springs? Thanks!

    Thanks Dave!

Man that cars got good lines. Perfect chop.

Id love to take it and repaint it a nice dark metallic color that would really enhance the body.

Ditch the pipes, radials, and Caddy taillights, and get some earlier hubcaps for it and it would be perfect.

I like it! I have Chassis engineering rear springs which they said are 3" drop and am running 3" blocks as well. I am still not this low. One of the reasons I started this thread was to see how low others are getting with the same type setup as I am running. It just shows that there are some mightly fine looking rides on here without a ton of expensive chassis mods to get it there. No need to lay on the rockers when the car is parked, may as well look good all of the time.

What a choice thread, I wouldnt mind going another 2 inch lower and adding an extra spring to stiffen it up, just my exhaust and lakes would take a battering.

Had to put boards under rear wheels to get it on the rollback when the radiator blew up. It's a lot of fun taking off the skirts, I would like to have the air ride suspension.

Thanks, it is an older custom but even with the things wearing out I still like it.

My truck. Later model chassis with dropped springs and spindles up front, and block's in back. It's about 3.5-4" at the front of the boards. Static.

Prolly should add my bro's '54 Cadillac...all stock suspension with two inch blocks in the rear...matter of fact, the 331" engine and tranny are stock too. His Cadillac actually gets 20-21 MPG on the highway at 70 mph...and we put over 5000 miles on his Cad this past summer...it's a highway cruiser...

1946 Ford pickup. Has a cutlass front clip z'd 3 inches and original rear leafs with about ten leaves removed and z'd 2 inches. I could barely get my boot under the front of the running board.

The car in my avatar, it sits on 3" lowering blocks and springs made by Eaton Detroit Spring Co. They made them to my specifictaions.... 3" drop in the front, 2" in the back please. Add the 2 to the 3 from the lowering blocks and there it is.

    Beautiful car there John !

My car sits somewhat like yours..

Dropped Beam , split wishbones. 2 inch rear blocks. I think someone
removed a leaf or two. I may go another inch in the rear
