I used a 48 Ford dash for my 51 Ford wagon. I had to stretch it 4" and reshape the leading edge, but I think it was worth it.

  3. I have thought of doing the dash in my '40 Ford in a very similar way. I have it mocked up with some plastic and painters tape. I like it, but am having second, third, fourth thoughts. Yeah yeah, the horror screwing with a '40 Ford dash. Now that I have seen the pic of the narrowed '59 Chevy dash, I am thinking of tracking one down and trying this in the '40. FWIW I do like what you have going on there. Some will call it Camaro style, but hey you are the one driving it, and those pods will keep a ton of glare off the gauges. It is yours, it's a bit different, and I like it, but I am a bit weird.

How about a 55 packard dash? I bought a whole car just to get the dash!

Those have always been one of my favorites - I had one in a 62 Chrysler Newport, complete with Push Button transmission. Got rid of the car before I knew better to keep it.. I believe I have fittingly seen these gauges appear in more than just one Bubble Top hot rod.

Been working on my '31 Model A and came up with this design. Used a '33 Plymouth gauge cluster and an early Sun Tach. Got some SS, engine turned it and TIG'd some 3/16" SS rod around the perimeter to finish it off.

Thanks, guys. As with most modifications it was more work than I expected it to be.

Its not the prettiest but it is quite functional. This is the dash in my AF/X Falcon, the Wild Child. The original dash was hacked out after the 65 race season so the engine could be set back. The boys at Rankin Ford just grabbed a piece of textured aluminum and fit in between the steering column supports.

I made a few minor changes when I restored the car and rewired it. One big change was after blowing up a motor at IRP; I added in a shift light but wired it to go on when the oil pressure drops below 20 lbs. Thankfully it only goes on when cranking the engine over and its building oil pressure.

better halfs model A in progress...found an electrical cabinet that had heat sink shelves that looked like flathead heads. i measured out the stock cloverleaf and added 1/4 inch all the way around so all the gauges would fit....used the same stuff for the face of her console, which is an old tropic aire heater
