Hopefully, you're not painting the bumpers, are you?

Watch out for the bumper police, they don't realize it'll cost over a grand to chrome them here. Build it your way at your budget and enjoy road time. Chrome would look great in the future.

  14. Hope the paint lays well ... ;)

Looks like you spent a lot of time to get the body nice and straight. We all have budgets, so there is nothing wrong with doing a car a little at a time as money permits, so don't sweat the painted bumpers. The car will be bitchin'. I'm like most people, I can handle the $50 purchases but I have to save up when something is going to cost $500 and up.

Post up lots of pictures when you get it back.

  16. Absolutely nothing wrong with painted bumpers - and nothing to stop them being chromed at a later date. Carry on and build it within the budget that's right for you.

  17. I would much rather see a painted bumper than a rusty peeling bumper.

    52Kiwi,
Are you going to make us wait or give us some idea of a color choice? Off to get a paint job is a little vague. Ya know what I mean Vern?

Repro bumpers rust really fast. If it costs a grand to replate them then maybe you are getting a better quality job.

If you must paint them, consider a nice glossy gun metal metallic.

  22. Or this, I used Dupli-color wheel paint. Not the same style bumper but I'm with you on making it look good for as little as possible. We used to paint the bumpers on our cars with aluminum paint when I was in high school. I'd hate to see you paint them the same color as the car but some shade of silver would look nice. Nice car by the way.

You do what you gotta do with the money you have until you have more money to do something with it. (pssst..its called a project for a reason;))
so If that means painted bumpers, than thats how it goes.

Hi guys, thanks for all the input.I will be putting more photos up when painted ,hope to be getting it back by xmas.Yes I dont have a money tree outside in the garden so the bumbers will have to wait.$1000 plus to get each one chrome so I think that money can be spent somewhere else on the car.The car is a 1952 model here in NZ but its got a 49 dashboard so I looked around and found a 49 grill which I really like .
