Came across this item at www.prewarcar.com , A restorer in California had this framed Art-Deco painting of Sir Malcolm Campells record breaking 1932 Bluebird hanging in the workshop for the last 25 years. The painting auctioned for $ 165.000, . For those not up on their history here,s a few more pic,s of the Bluebird. First two are the painting.
That car is enormous, plus.....272mph on tires made with 1933 technology. So, a painting of my car...... never mind.
It has been proven time and time again, Famous cars, rare cars and Art are great investments if a man can afford them. HRP
I have lot of old license plates hanging on my garage wall for Art. When I'm gone they probably won't bring much at the estate sale ?????????
While I don't have 165K hanging on my wall I would gladly peddle everything that is on my wall today for 10K. I am not a great connoisseur of art as a rule and I just can't grasp what things sell for or why. I do wish I was old enough to have gotton up close to the original car at least once though. Now that car is an important bit of history and I'll bet that under its skin is was as beautiful as it was on the outside.
That's happy wealth to have 165k hanging on the garage wall. Wow, and I cringe when I see 10 grand worth of grille, manifold collections hanging on a wall.
Ok, you convinced me! what am I offered for the whole wall? Will anyone start the bidding at a mere $10,000?
Who is the artist of the auctioned painting in the original post? Nevermind, I read the link and it says the artist is Cyril Power. There are a lot of cool cars on that site, too.
Well, i dont even have 16.50 in my wallet right now I was hopin it was about some 90s punk rock gig poster, as thats all i have on my shop walls...lol
sorry guys but art just aint something that interest me. and aint no way in hell id give a 165000 for ANY PAINTING.not to have hanginon a wall. now to resell thats a whole different ball game.
It would get ruined from the cc plasma dust in my garage, because I WORK ON HOT RODS THERE, not use it for art display
But if you would give me 10K for everything on my wall today I could leave for california before the weather got too bad to make the trip back and we would have enough left over to have a couple of days of fun on my side trip to Arkansas.
cool story, glad he didn't set fire to it like I've done with most of the posters in my garage. We're lucky enough to have one of these (from the edition of 60 original prints) in the collection at my work and actually hung it in an exhibition a few months ago, I think another one's on display at MOMA too. really like this one from the same movement as well
I have a few pieces of Hot Rod art that I have accumulated over the last 40 years,,some local original pieces, a few high profile artist prints from when I was involved in the art & frame business and several black & white prints. They probably don't mean anything to anyone else but I enjoy them. HRP
I have a picture of my ex wife hanging in my garage, just above the urinal. But since it also serves as a dart board, I don't think it would bring much at auction.
