39-47 Dodge/Plymouth/Fargo Truck Picture thread

CAN I GET ALITTLE HELP HERE??

I have the chance to pick up this pickup and I am trying to figure out what it is..... it is registered as a 46 but looking at the frontend it just doesnt look right

.... it has side markers on the cowl PLUS parking lights on the headlight buckets ... it shouldnt have both I would thing.

.... also the head lights are closer to the radiator shell than other 46's I have seen.

.... and then there is the question of what year is the shell??


Also, just for grins, it has the flathead six in a basket which I really wouldnt want to put back in ... does this pickup cry out for a particular engine/chassis combo? ... just tell me what you think, I can take it! LOL

Right, I am thinking maybe this truck has a pre-41 front clip ... anyone???

 

Earlier in this thread someone talks about a difference in door latches. Maybe he can help?

 

all 3 makes have same location. 39 and 40 were mounted inboard. 40 only had the parking lights on top of headlight. 41 through 47 were moved to the crown of the fender and the parking lights were moved to the cowl.

 

they are 40 front fenders. the nose is later, 41 through 47 and the cab with the cowl lights would be 41 and later. if the front bumper has a turnout in the center it would be 41 and later. flat front bumpers of that height are 39 and 40 only. i can't tell from the picture but on 41 and later on the roof about 6" behind the top of the windshield is a panel joint line with an exterior cover about a 1/2" wide. 39 and 40 that seam is welded. that roof seam is the only way I know of to differentiate cabs other than dimensions of interior wiper covers.

 

The frames are quite substantial so swapping is a choice not a requirement, but the Dakota has been used if that is the suspension style you want. As to drivetrain, just keep it Mopar and everyone will be happy...

I love that so many plymouths are on this and was shocked that my dads old truck was already in the thread, it was our last project before he passed away and is now owned by his bestfriend they painted it and finished the interior. Heres a pic of how it looked when we had it.

I didn't know there were so many lovers of these old trucks. I just finished my 426 HEMI powered 41 after a ten year project. Like many of the Dodge trucks of this era my running boards were in pretty bad shape. I sent one of my original boards to Smoothie Fabrication in North Carolina to use as a pattern. The boards they made for me were beautiful. I would recommend you contact them if you need a quality set of boards to complete your truck since they have now added the 41-47 Dodge parts to their product line.

Here's one I did a while back wish I still had it.

 

Sold this to a fellow HAMBr a few years back. It had been in the family since the early 50's as a farm truck.
